Cannot get cwsh (ck8.0) going

Hello to all
I am trying to use the ck curses toolkit in linux. Even though
compiling and linking seem to have worked, the cwsh executable does
nothing (except clearing the screen/flashing for a nanosecond).
I have tried an older tcl (8.3.5) as well but with the same result.
If I try to divert output to a file, cwsh says "standard input/output
must be terminal".
Can anyone give me a hint on how to discover what is wrong?
