Ftwalk is a script programming language that is roughly comparable to
(possibly competitive with) other VHLL's like Perl, TCL and Python.

Ftwalk has a very similar syntax to awk, but provides a rich type system,
hundreds of built-in functions, modular front ends (one like awk, one like
find, others user-definable), ability to link in DSO's, etc. It can be
used in scripts, from the command line, or interactively (like a calculator).

Ftwalk is now available as free software (complete source code, on-line
documentation in HTML, Perl-like license on redistribution). It has
been ported to Sun/Solaris, SGI, and SCO/Unixware, and binary packages
are available for those platforms. We are working on other ports (AIX
and Linux), and will try to help users porting to other systems.
