Maybe you can't. If it's a full-featured OTF font, it simply cannot be
converted; if you convert a castle to a shack, something will be lost.
Less if it happens to be a simple Type 1 to OTF conversion in the first
place.

Even if was just a plain non-otf PS Type1 font, a conversion to TTF
would still lose quality and other attributes.

The question is really, WHY do you want to convert it at all?
Windows 2000 and XP can use the font directly; Earlier Windows versions
require just the free Adobe Type Manager Light, available from Adobe at
http://www.adobe.com/products/atmlight/download.html

Well, I know Fontlab (~$500) does it, and so does pfaedit in linux (don't
have a spare pc/hd for linux install)...

I just *know* there's a shareware conversion program out there...

The reson to convert was that I need to use it in Autocad which accepts only
ttf's.

I didn't know that! A little digging showed that once upon a time
Autocad could use them, but recent versions no longer can, even with
ATM.

Conversions can be done with Transtype or Fontlab. There are NO free or
shareware programs that will do it.

If you only need a few converted, you might post them in
alt.binaries.fonts - someone will either convert them or post truetype
versions, if they exist.

Pfaedit will also work under windows/cygwin, so that's a potential free
solution. Of course you need to install cygwin (also X11R6), but that's
quite straightforward, if a bit time-consuming.
