Whenever I run the Repair/Compact on my database, the security settings on
the file change.

A 3rd party application can only access the database over the network when
the username "Everyone" is added to the "Group or user names" with access to
the file. But each time the Repair/Compact utility is run, it removes
"Everyone" from the list.

This is under Win2000. Can anyone offer some advise or suggestions?
Thanks

Compacting is actually done by creating a NEW file so it will inherit the
permission settings of the folder the file resides in.

I wish it were that simple. I already set the folder security to grant
access to Everyone. If I do a simple copy/paste of the file (or create any
new file in the same folder), it has "Everyone" in the access list. But
when I do Repair/Compact it changes so that only System Administrators have
access.

Thanks

Is this with Access 2000? I believe that is the only version of Access
that copies the file to the TEMP directory first instead of the current
directory during a compact. The permissions get modified because of
this. I recall this issue but don't recall the fix. Perhaps you should
open up the permissions on your defined TEMP directory.
