ABOUT THE PLAY:
Hilarious yet dark - The Butcher of Quietly is a tragic farce. The
story as told is extremely edge-of-the-seat. The twists and turns in
the plots keep one guessing till the last moment. The actions in the
play take place in three time zones, and in one place – the deep woods
of Quietly. The moments across the play are funnily edgy at times, and
are likely to leave the audience spellbound by the audacity of its
debate. The play reflects on our current politics of indifference and
power based on total ignorance of the social good. The way, the play is
designed, it has an extremely fast pace to it, and uses innovative
new-age techniques to create a breathtaking spectacle. The acting
styles vary from one time zone to another, not only depicting the
realities of the respective periods but also present elevated realities
of those times. The Butcher of Quietly is at times poetic, at times
rip-roaringly funny, mostly theatrical, and quietly dark.

SYNOPSIS:
A woman’s skull buried deep down in the dark pages of history. A secret
investigation leads us to the first ever murder committed in cold blood
in a jungle kingdom called Quietly. The skull is Zasha’s, the wife of
Soola, who kills her for greed, in his blind pursuit of wealth, status
and power. He kills her because in her head is hidden a secret hymn
which can guide one to the king’s secret chamber, filled with treasure.
His pursuance of his ambition to replace the king of Quietly makes
defunct the law of the land that one can kill but only for hunger. What
follows is a hilariously dark trial, where Soola makes a mockery of the
entire system and proves himself innocent in the eyes of the people and
the king of Quietly. As soon as Soola is free, he assassinates the
king. Then rise to the occasion, the Protectors of Quietly, to haunt
him for his sins. A bloody battle ensues between Soola’s black army and
the protectors of Quietly, where Soola his captured in his effort to
regain possession of Zasha’s skull. He is imprisoned and then tortured
for days before he miraculously escapes and manages to enter the secret
chamber of the slain king. The chief of the Protectors of Quietly then
silently surrenders to the idea that maybe Soola is destined to be the
next king. Instead of waging a war in the defence of the honour of
Quietly, he decides to negotiate for his share of the loot.
