Dear Companer@s

The atrocious events yesterday in Arizona at the hands of ICE only
illustrate what has been brewing for years now.  That the
implementation of "Endgame" has continued unabated despite negations
from official sources and certainly despite the promise of Obama
putting an end to the reprehensible raids in our communities that have
occurred at a higher rate than under the Bush Administration.  The
raid of this magnitude means that we have entered a new stage that
despite "soothing" assurances that it was just an ICE operation
directed at a single commercial entity, in fact reflects an
intensified, mass attack on the streets of our community.  It is no
doubt the sign of things to come.

It has been clear for many of us that "change" was a facade, a farce
to entice the Latino vote, with no intention of coming to its aid with
a progressive immigration reform this year, its becoming more and more
obvious.  The Latino community has been duped again by the iron hand
of the ruling class masquerading as "champions of reform" and "bearers
of goodwill."  Now folks are lashing out, but we should have lashed
out when he tapped Janet Napolitano for the "instrument' of reform.
With her track record, he should have just put Lou Dobbs in as head of
security.

Hopefully all that lashing out now can be channeled into working
together toward a strategical solution, sooner than later.  There is
still hope, but it extends well beyond Primero de Mayo, and this
so-called "last stage."  It is clearer day by day, that this is
actually the first stage of something much more sinister and punitive
that will plague our community for years to come, namely the further
expansion of the Immigration Industrial Complex under this and future
administrations, and one that has thrived under the Arpaio strongarm
establishment.

Now things have reached a crisis point in Arizona but we all know that
the crisis actually began years ago.  Those of us who have been
observing events in Arizona from the outside have been moved to find a
way to influence the course of events there and come to the aid of our
community from our vantage point, with little avail.  Even bringing in
20,000 strong in January may have emboldened law enforcement there
even more.  There is obvious a need for a structured dialogue, with
results.

That is, we feel that there a good first step would be for those in
Arizona to educate/report to the lot of us that only hear of these
abuses from afar, not necessarily experiencing them on a daily basis.
Some have seen it firsthand, but there may be more of us that need to
get a better picture by those Arizonans in ground zero, especially
with the newest developments--the proposed bill, and the raid
yesterday--to catch us all up to speed and to get us on the same page.
As such we propose a meeting of minds, calling upon players active
both inside and outside of Arizona to weave a network of support that
is long term in nature and hopefully the beginning of a new stage in
the development of our movement where coordination and higher levels
of unity of both will and action are the order of the day.  For this,
we wish to invite you to a phone conference to discuss what can be
done and where to begin, coming to the aid of Arizona as it is at the
front lines of the battle that will soon be at all our doorsteps, we
have to stomp it out now.

Gloria received a call from folks in Tucson, and I spoke to others in
Phoenix, and we could imagine how many folks still need to connect
immediately with the situation, so this is what we thought would serve
us best for the moment.  So we propose a phone conference to ask the
Arizona folks to give a historical snapshot and or analysis of the
situation for the rest of us so we can begin a broader dialogue on how
we can help the Arizona folks more under these dire circumstances, and
move ahead strategically and together.

Proposed (TENTATIVE) agenda would look like this, but could be subject
to change.  please try to call your/any suggestions in to us so we can
make the changes beforehand.  we are absolutely cognizant that this is
an AZ struggle, and our intentions are nothing but what we have
expressed above, a suggested first step for a meaningful dialogue that
can potentially be turned into something longterm.  We hope if you are
from Arizona and would like to participate, please do...

6-6:15...introductions
6:15-6:45...5-7 min presentations by Arizona folks on the gravity of
the situation not reflected in the media
6:45-7...a roll on May 1st and some predictions and or implications
for AZ and beyond this year and/or questions and answers for AZ
folks...
7-7:15...strategical tactic proposals on the short and long term
struggle for immigrant rights
7-7:20...set up next phone conference where we can further discuss the
situation and the proposals, preferably Sunday night at 5pm
(SUGGESTED).
Please join us for a conference call in regards to" the Arizona
Situation."  Please be respectful and mindful of the situation in AZ,
and let's try to be as colegial as possible with each other.
