City denies March 10th Immigrant Rights Parade Permit
Community and Youth organizers appeal the decision made by the city
What: A press conference held by community and youth organizers of the March 10th immigrant rights demonstration addressing denial of permit by the City of Chicago. To take place before the city hears the appeal, in support of the march scheduled for March 10th, from Union Park to Federal Plaza.
When: Thursday, February 25th at 12:30 p.m.
Where: 400 W. Superior St. Chicago, IL
Outside the Department of Administrative Hearings building
Who: Community Leaders and Youth Organizers of the March 10th Immigrant Rights demonstration
Why: On February 10, 2010, an application to the City of Chicago Public Way Permit Division for a parade permit for March 10, 2010 was submitted. The march 10, 2010 parade is expecting 10,000 participants. The parade will start at Union Park and end at Federal Plaza.
On February 18, 2010, a denial letter was received from the Assistant Director of the Public Way Permit Division, Michael Simon, denying the February application.
The Youth Movement along with the March 10th Immigrants Rights organizers decided to appeal the denial of the proposed permit on February 23rd after having discussion meetings and after the negotiations, with the City of Chicago Public Way Permit Division, failed.
Organizers
have said that the march will go ahead regardless of permit issues, even if it
needs to take place on the side walk.
