PRESS CONFERENCE AND EVENT: TELL TOM DART TO “STOP THINKING!”
“Cook County Sheriff keeps ‘thinking’ about not delivering detainees in Cook County jail to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)” says reverend José Landaverde from Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission in Little Village, “but each day that goes by while he ‘thinks’, more and more families see their lives destroyed by ICE”.
Reverend Landaverde, community groups and parishioners of Our Lady of Guadalupe will hold a press conference on SUNDAY, August 7, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 3442 W. 26th Street, just before mass, to demand that Sheriff Dart stops thinking and starts acting!
Merrilee Jaimes, a U.S. citizen high blood pressure, a degenerative bone disease and arthritis, demands her husband of 10 years, Francisco Jaimes, to be returned to her. “He was arrested, taken to jail and accused with stealing the handicap sign in our car, and he is now facing deportation. I can’t live without my husband”, she says. “He cleans, cooks, feeds me, and fixes the house besides complementing my 590 dollar a month SSI compensation. If he gets deported I will have to move to an asylum.”
On MONDAY, August 8, 2011, at 12 noon, Ms Jaimes will go to the ICE’s offices on Congress and Clark, in downtown Chicago, to seek her husband’s freedom.
