Yves Gomes is a 17-year-old high who just graduated from high school in Maryland. He is in imminent danger of being deported from the county that he considers his home.
Yves came to the United States in 1994 when he was just over a year old. He was brought to Washington DC by his father and mother, and his younger brother was later born here, making him an American citizen. However, his father and mother were not able to get legal status in the US so they were eventually deported back to their home countries of Bangladesh and India (respectively) in 2009. Yves is also undocumented, but was been given additional time to stay and complete his senior year of high school. After two stays of deportation he has been told to leave the country on August 13, 2010 and return to India.
Yves grew up speaking English, being taught through the American educational system, and has grown accustomed to American culture and lifestyle. If deported, Yves fears that it will be nearly impossible for him to adjust to life in India. Yves graduated from Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, MD as an honors student with a 3.8 GPA and is a member of the National Honors Society.
We ask that Yves be granted a deferral of removal by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in order to be able to attend college here in the US, and that he ultimately be allowed obtain his legal status.
