Subject: Dear friends, looking for your support continuing to organize for the DREAM Act
To: ilehl...@gmail.com

Dear community and friends,

Last night I arrived in Washington D.C. to help plan a mass mobilization of youth in the nation's capital to urge our legislators to pass the DREAM Act this year. We are looking at this as our great last stand to move our legislators to pass a bill that would provide millions of undocumented youth a path to citizenship. This summer, I have been traveling around the country organizing with youth and community on immigrant rights.

As you may have heard, in May me and 3 other undocumented youth were in Arizona working with and learning from the community there, saying "Arizona is not the standard for immigration reform" and talking about the DREAM Act as the first step towards a change that would benefit our immigrant communities. When Mohammad, Yahaira, and Lizbeth were arrested and placed into removal proceedings after our civil disobedience action, my job became to be as visibile as possible, some may say undocumented and unafraid, in Arizona. And so since we have not passed the DREAM Act yet, the work continues..

In order to fully commit to immigrant rights organizing, I left my position at Radio Arte last April. I had been there for 9 years as student, mentor, director... And although it hurt to leave my students and co-workers, I knew that the work that I would be taking on would be for them in the end, because throughout those 9 years, I have sat in my office and at least every week listened to another story of frustration, dreams unfulfilled, hesitation, as well as resilience and resistance to a system where we have no rights.

But that means I have been living off my savings, and generous contributions from the community. As these are running out, I am writing this e-mail to ask you for a contribution to my personal finances. It's not tax deductible or anything, but any contribution would be appreciated. To give a donation via internet, visit my ChipIn Page: http://taniaunzueta.chipin.com/tanias-arizona-funds

Also, know that the Immigrant Youth Justice League is also raising funds to bring a bus to Washington DC to participate in the mass mobilization. Click here to contribute to their efforts (they ARE tax deductible!)

Sincerely,
