United Parcel Service (UPS) is using E-VERIFY, a goberment program to harass and terminate senoir employees, says Teamsters Local 705 which represents over ten thousand UPS employees in the Chicago land area. Alleged dicriminatory statements were used by UPS mangnament when they called four line workers “illegals” in front of theirs peers and pulled them out of service for several days. Each of the four employees has worked for UPS for nearly a decede. UPS claims that the federaly mandated program gives the company the right to pull out of service and legaly terminate emploees who helped the company grow.
Essentialy E-VERIFY is a federal program used by employers to run background checks on their employees. “Karen Rivera is a United States born citizen who has benn working for UPS for 24 years and was inaccurately flagged by the system and now she endures the threat of termination” UPS use of E-VERIFY is of questionable legality but also raises concerns of whether it is being used appropriately, “note Local 705 General Cousel Ned Burk “and UPS should cease the abuse”.

After months of frulless attemps, UPS has refused to meet with Teamsters Local 705. “UPS proclaims that they run the tightest ship in the shipping business but this is an abuse of the system,” Said Steve Pocztowski Teamsters Local 705 Secretary- Treasurer.
