Hello,
Earlier today, April 5th, eight undocumented youth participated in an act of civil disobedience in Atlanta, Georgia, specifically protesting a ban that denies undocumented youth the right to attend 5 public universities in that state but also connecting this to a larger attack on immigrant communities. Two of those undocumented students, David Ramirez and Andrea Rosales, are part of the Immigrant Youth Justice League. Their decision to get arrested and possibly face deportation is part of their long
commitment to fighting for the right and access to higher education for all people regardless of their immigration status. Even though Illinois is one of ten states that grants in-state tuition to undocumented students, we won’t leave behind our friends and family in other states. We appreciate the support you have given us in the past, whether with your
presence or in monetary ways, and we would like to ask you once again for your help. We don’t know if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will get involved, but we are preparing for it. In case they do, we are trying to fund raise $10,000.00 by the end of the week. Anything you can give will be useful. We have a chip in account we are using for funds. http://andrea1david2.chipin.com/andrea-and-david-organizing-in-georgiaAll the money that is fundraised will go towards Andrea and David’s fund to pay for whatever may be needed, but also to begin a fund for any similar actions in the future that might take place. When people are ready to put themselves at risk to fight for the rights
of our communities, we need to be able to support them emotionally and financially. Please help us do this. Also be on the look out in the next couple of days for an activity to update you on the actions and what is going in Georgia.
