January 22nd marks the 37th anniversary of legal abortion in the United States. The Roe v Wade decision, which legalized abortion, marked a tremendous victory for the Women's Liberation movement.
Under persistent attack, access to abortion has steadily eroded - 87% of U.S. counties currently have no abortion providers. The Stupak Amendment included in the recent healthcare bill will continue the ban on any federal funding for abortion. We need a new women's rights movement that unapologetically defends a woman's right to choose. Sharon Smith explains the socialist strategy for fighting women's oppression today.
