Hi Shaun

This note was given to us from Claudia Munoz (A#205-001-963), an organizer with the National Immigrant Youth Alliance, currently detained at the Calhoun County Jail, in Michigan.

Last year ICE made the mistake of going after my nephew; they detained him at a detention center for over 4-weeks. They finally decided to release him; allowing for him fight his case from the outside. I never really understood what my nephew went through those 4-weeks, that is until now. I have spent the last 11-days detained at the Calhoun County Jail, an immigration detention center here in Michigan.

I am detained in a Michigan detention center because I allowed for myself to be caught by border patrol in an effort to expose the abuses happening everyday. I've only been here 11-days and already i've seen more than I want to. I have watched the ICE Liaison here, officer J. Jolin, directly threaten detainees, forcing them to sign Voluntary Departure.

ICE Liaison, Officer J. Jolin: "If you don't sign I'll bring in 3-deputies and force you to sign."

Every night I go to sleep hearing the cries of mothers missing their children. Only two of the women detained here, myself and Wanda, are without children of our own; everyone else has at least one U.S. citizen child at home awaiting their return. There is no reason why any mother should ever be detained, away from their kids.

I am so thankful you all were able to help stop Everilda's deportation, I hear she is now home with her 4 kids!

I let myself get detained so that I could find stories like Gustavo, the father of 3 U.S. citizen kids. Gustavo has been detained since April 1st when he was arrested in front of his wife and children. Gustavo wasn't even charged with a crime, he was just taken directly to ICE detention.

Sign the Petition: Ask ICE to Release Low-Priority Detainees!

If the Michigan ICE Director was doing her job then I would not have been detained. I should have been released the moment they found out I was a low-priority case. Each day I am in here I am finding new stories of families being torn apart, hopefully with your help we can get them all out!

Help me get the word out: "Michigan ICE is out of control: Fire Adducci!"

For a long time I was afraid of immigration, afraid of what might happen to myself and my family. Now, I am no longer afraid; I am ready to stay here as long as it takes to make sure ICE knows it can no longer do whatever it wants. Please join me in asking for Director Adducci and Officer J. Jolin be fired, as well as all low-priority detainees, like myself, released.

Thank you,

Claudia Munoz
