Update: After spending a night in jail, David Ramirez & Andrea Rosales from Chicago, along with the 5 other undocumented youth, have been released from jail! ICE visited them, but decided not to detain them. Thanks to all of you that showed your support. Despues de estar una noche en la carcel, David Ramirez y Andrea Rosales de Chicago, junto a 5 otros jovenes indocumentdos, fueron liberados. Inmigracion los visito, pero decidieron no detenerlos. David’s Parents Proud of Civil Disobedience, Ask Community Support

David Ramires, 22, is one of 7 undocumented activists who were arrested protesting a ban of undocumented youth from the top 5 public universities in Georgia. He is an IYJL organizer and a senior at Dominican University in Chicago, Illinois. His parents released this statement:
We are David’s parents. He’s one of the undocumented youth arrested yesterday in the state of Georgia. As parents we feel proud of seeing that our son is fighting for his dreams and the dreams of all the students who are in the same situation.
We brought David to the United States when he was one year old, to give him a better future. He has always been a good student, an example for his younger brothers and sisters to follow, and a leader in his community. He has been able to succeed despite all the obstacles that he has faced.
Yesterday, by getting arrested, he took the reins of his own future. The bravery and conviction of my son and the other youth detained is inspiring to us, and to all the youth who feel alone and without support. We support our son and on the youth who have decided to wait no longer.
We call to all parents to support their children, in their fight for the basic rights that they deserve, such as the right to an education.

Padres de David Orgullosos de Desobedencia Civil, Piden Apoyo Comunitario
David Ramirez, 22, es uno de los 7 activistas indocumentados que fueron arrestados, en protesta de una ley que obstruiría el acceso a educación universitaria para personas sin papeles en Georgia. Es un miembro de IYJL, y en su último año de bachillerato en la universidad Dominican, en Chicago, Illinois.
Somos los padres de David, uno de los jóvenes indocumentados que fueron arrestados ayer en el estado de Georgia. Como padres nos sentimos orgullosos de ver que nuestro hijo esta luchando por sus sueños y los sueños de todos los estudiantes que están en su misma situación.
Nosotros trajimos a David a Estados Unidos cuando tenia un año, para proveerle un mejor futuro. Siempre ha sido buen estudiante, un ejemplo a seguir para sus hermanos menores, y un líder de la comunidad. El ha salido adelante a pesar de todos los obstáculos que se le han presentado.
Ayer, al ser arrestado, el tomo las riendas de su futuro. La valentía y la convicción de mi hijo y de los otros jóvenes arrestados nos ha servido de inspiración a nosotros, y a todos los jóvenes que se sienten solos y sin apoyo. Apoyamos a nuestro hijo y a todos los jóvenes que han decidido no esperar mas .
Hacemos un llamado a todos los padres a que apoyen a sus hijos, los cuales solo están abogando por los derechos básicos que dignamente se merecen. Uno de ellos siendo el derecho a la educción.
Por favor considere contribuir a la recaudación de fondos para sacar a David, y a los otros jovenes, de la carcel. Gracias.
