The unnatural catastrophe in Haiti and the need for open borders From the New York Times: “Every day, a United States Air Force cargo plane… flies for five hours over the devastated country, broadcasting… a recorded message from Raymond Joseph, Haiti’s ambassador in Washington[:] “Listen, don’t rush on boats to leave the country… If you think you will reach the U.S. and all the doors will be wide open to you, that’s not at all the case. And they will intercept you right on the water and send you back home where you came from.” Come this Thursday, Jan 21, at 7 pm, in Casa Aztlan (1831 S. Racine Ave., 2nd floor) to discuss how the earthquake in Haiti is exponentially aggravated by American imperialism. This week, ICE gave to undocumented Haitian in the U.S. a Temporary Protected Status (TPS), but what Haitians really need today, like all victims of natural and unnatural disasters, is all borders open. At the meeting, we’ll set up a couple of computers to donate to the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund.
