HOSPITALS HEAR DEMANDS FROM THE HUNGER STRIKERS

On Monday June 18, 2012 at 12:00 noon, in our Lady of Guadalupe
Mission Church, a representative from Loyola Medical Center will be
meeting with the Hunger Strikers and the families of Jorge Mariscal
and the Arroyo brothers. They are facing critical conditions as a
result of hospitals denying transplants due to their legal status.
Following at 5:00 p.m. the hunger strikers will also be meeting with
Dr. Joe Garcia, CEO of the University of Illinois Medical Center. They
will be discussing how to help people receive transplants regardless
of their legal status.

It’s unfair that undocumented individuals are able and encouraged to
donate organs but are denied transplants themselves. The hunger
strikers are committed to this movement until all three patients are
allowed that basic human right. Loyola and UIC can end this Hunger
Strike immediately if they wish.
