Hundreds of High School Students Walk Out & Take to the Streets in protest to Arizona Law SB1070
Students Demand Education and Legalization Not Deportations and Family Separation
Chicago IL- One day after the launch of “Be an Equal Rights University Campaign” led by the University of Chicago and days after undocumented students risked arrest in Arizona and were put in deportation proceedings, Chicago High School students walk out of classes in the fight for legalization and against the Arizona racist law SB1070.
As part of the National student week of action, Chicago South Side High School Students demand a stop on the implementation of the Arizona racist law SB1070 which legalizes racial profiling of Latinos and people of skin color, demand legalization for undocumented students and their families and demand president Obama to implement and immediate halt on the deportations of the three undocumented students that were arrested in Tucson Arizona in McCain’s office for demanding to be heard by the senator.
“Patience is running out in the Latino community, we marched, we voted and we still get deported, so now we walk out” said Tanya Lozano from the Youth Equalizers and Center for Inner City Studies.
“Every day a family is separated, a student is denied a righteous future and a mother or father is deported and we cannot live on promises any longer, we need to see action”, said Darlene Bueno from Benito Juarez.
“We are utilizing our first amendment rights under the constitution to assemble and freedom of speech, the tea party is over, legalization or no re-election, we will be staring a voters registration and education campaign starting now” said Iliana Mujica
“We demand education and Legalization not deportation and family separation”, said Carmela from Northeastern Illinois University and Movimiento Cultural Latinoamericano.
