It's a sad day - but I can't shop at Target anymore! Thanks to the Supreme Court's Citizen's United case, Target can now influence elections with big contributions: They support a far-right candidate for MN governor who wants to introduce and pass the same legislation against immigrants and brown people as in AZ, wants to eliminate minimum wage and financially supports a group advocating the execution of gay people!!  It used to be my favorite store - no more. And because I really do love shopping there, it will be a sacrifice! Read the info from 'MoveOn' below and please sign the petition. Following are my specific comments: Thanks. ~ MB

"Our favorite store is/was Target - at 95th near Pulaski in Oak Lawn, IL. In fact, I was going there today: big sale on useful items. I'll not go to Target today or any other day. I won't spend one penny at your store until assurances have been made -publically- that it will remove itself from political involvement. While I am white many of our family members are Hispanic, most of our friends and colleagues are African American. People in these communities will learn of your political bias against them because we will spread the word! Yes, you are biased - why else would you financially support the far-right Republican candidate for governor in Minnesota!? Say good-bye to many of your customers because you are supporting politicians who work against the very people who fill your pockets!"

Here's the MoveOn.org message

The Minneapolis-based retailer Target just gave over $150,000 to buy ads supporting state Rep. Tom Emmer, a far-right Republican candidate for governor. This makes Target one of the very first companies to take advantage of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision allowing unlimited corporate cash in elections.

Target must think customers won't care. They're wrong: We do care, and we need to let them know that we want Target -- and all corporations -- out of our elections. Can you join me in sending a message to Target's CEO at the link below?
