Building on a November forum addressing growing concern over police profiling of Latinos together with a revealing expose in the Chicago Tribune dated January 6, 2011* and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Traffic Stop statistics that show evidence of racial profiling in nearly every town in Dupage County members of a newly formed Dupage Latino coalition will be holding a press conference to call out evidence of racia ...l profiling and joint Dupage County Sherriff office Immigration and Customs Enforcemet (ICE) collaboration in Dupage County. The press conference will take place at 9am in front of the Dupage County
Sherriff’s Department, 501 North County Farm Road, Wheaton IL. The event will feature: Rita Gonzalez of the Dupage County Board (dst. 1), Deacon Guadalupe Villarreal, Hispanic Minister at St. Isidore Parish in Bloomingdale; Cristobal Cavazos, coordinator Immigrant Solidarity Dupage, Cynthia Brito, student and community activist Addison :and Frank Flores secretary, Immigrant Solidarity Dupage. With IDOT info showing towns such as Carol Stream (46 consent searchs of Latinos in 2009, 4 finds of drugs); Villa Park (Latinos 19% of population, 34% of traffic stops in 2009); Addison (88 consent searches of Latinos, 8 finds of drugs in 2009) Naperville (12 searches of Latino drivers vehicles in 2009 found drugs on one occasion: 8% success rate ) and towns across Dupage showing strark evidences of profiling event organizer have the following five demands: 1) opt out of the
