Hello:

I saw cherrypy trac and found you still do many backports to cherrypy
2.2 branch.

Will there be a release for cherrypy 2.x version which support python
2.5 in near future?
Is there any critical issues that prevent CP2.x from python 2.5?

At least I know, TurboGears groups are eager for a cherrypy 2.x release
with python 2.5,
since CP3 porting to TurboGears is not on schedule yet.

Yes! We're working on releasing 2.2.2 very soon.

None at all; 2.5 required two fixes to CherryPy, and both were fixes to the test suite, not CherryPy itself. See http://www.cherrypy.org/changeset/1272. You *may* encounter the socket error; I just ran the test suite against CP 2.2.1 and saw no such error.

I believe you missed this page
http://docs.turbogears.org/1.0/Python2.5Support
our current problem is with RuleDispatch and maybe ConfigObj
