I posted to CFJobs last week and got no suitable applicants.

This is a major problem for my employers... what are they gonna do
when i leave? Move to PHP?

I think there is just a distinct lack of CF programmers... even tho
we're offering top $.

Skills shortage is the word,

try the job websites, not every cf dev has heard of the cfjobs mailing list or cfaussie for that matter,
more wouldn't have heard of cfaussie then would have (I've ran into more cfdevs in the work force that say "cfwhat?" then 'oh yeah cfaussie".

I know Kay said they didn't get many applicants, but said the year before they had trouble getting PHP dev's
A mates work had trouble getting .net devs.
It's an employees market, all has to do with supply demand,
the good developers are already employed, because they are good, so you need to offer them something there current employer doesn't or hope some good devs are up for a change.

I have some friends who work in companies that do real weird unheard of languages, and they know there is no one out there with those skills, so they advertise for programmers then send them off to a few days training.

In times of skills shortage this is the best bet, just try and get a cf dev if that don't work try for a php dev if that don't work try for a .net dev etc, and send them off to a few days training.

If the employer can't afford to train someone as a last restort, then....

It's not really a lack of CF developers it's a lack of Develper altogether.

Seeks has about 2 fulltime CF jobs listed while it has 425 .NET job listed,
that just in Brisbane. Good luck to anyone finding a .NET developer.

I agree with Brian

The IT industry has grown a lot over the last 5 years, but Uni enrollments have dropped greatly
as many High school leavers realised that not every one starts a Yahoo.
