Skandinavian Institute is seeking for 2 volunteers who will be assistants at the ongoing exchange programmes.
The
foundation Scandinavian Institute (Stiftelsen Skandinaviska Institutet,
SSI) in Sweden strives to create opportunities for young people to
embrace an experience of international context. SSI´s goal is to
establish cooperation with other similar cultural exchange
organizations and associations, which offer young people the
opportunity of working, studying and travelling abroad in a safe and
organized way. We would like to be part of the programme as both a
sending and a hosting organization, so that we could give young people
the opportunity of cultural exchange.
Scandinavian Institute has
an important goal, to get young adults to demonstrate an international
commitment and interest. Our purpose is also to contribute by involving
young adults who have finished their project abroad to take part in the
network. This commitment may consist of an employment or practical work
placement as participants are creating their own individual platform
within the network. A possible stay abroad can also precede the
commitment.
Below are the following current projects being offer by the foundation:
• Au Pair, United States
• EduCare, United States
• Camp America, United States
• Volunteer work in Ecuador and India
• Internship programmes in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand
• Work and Travel, Australia and New Zealand
• Au Pair, Australia and New Zealand
• Three weeks of orientated visits at Universities in United States
During
more than 15 years, SSI has been sending abroad young Swedes through
our different programmes. Our main programmes are Au Pair in America
and Camp America, but we are also running volunteer projects, studies
programmes and internships. Most of our recruits are going U.S., but
also to India, Ecuador, Malta, Spain, Australia, New Zealand and
England.
Volunteers will have a great opportunity to learn how to
team work in a non-profit foundation related with inter-cultural
exchanges. They will learn about the structure and the work routines
that go on in a Swedish NGO, and get used in working in a structured
way. It is also a great chance for the volunteers to learn how to
improve their communication skills, to hold presentations and seminars.
Tasks
The
volunteers will develop administrative errands at the office like
calling applincants´ references, answering e-mails and phone calls, but
also they will have the opportunity of doing other kind of tasks like
interviewing Camp America and Au Pair in America applicants, hold
presentations and seminars, taking part in job fairs, attending NGOs
forums…
In discussion together with the volunteer we will define the main
interests of working areas and define in which grade the volunteer can
contribute with earlier experiences. The possibilities to take
responsibilities for own projects are given.
The volunteers will work 30-35 hours per week, including Swedish
lessons. In case, they are needed for extra hours (for example: taking
part in a fair) or having participated in a working event that takes
place during weekends, they will have those hours off at a later stage.
The volunteers will have 2 days working days off a month. When to take
these days off is quite flexible, but it is necessary to inform and
agree with SSI staff on beforehand.
Criteria
SSI
is looking for two volunteers who are interested in international
issues and inter-cultural exchange programs. Former experiences from
any type of youth exchange or activities in any youth organization are
positive.
The volunteers should be open, flexible and responsible. SSI would like
the volunteers to be creative and independent, able to work with a PC
and have good English skills. SSI expects the volunteers to cooperate
with others and to work individually as well. Language skills in
Swedish is an advantage, but not required. They should be motivated,
organized and with good communicative skills.
Procedure
Interviews,
CV and motivation letters will be considered carefully in order to find
the most suitable candidates. An open and transparent choice of the
volunteer is guaranteed through the free announcement of the project in
the EVS-Database and a survey of all incoming applications
non-regarding the nationality, gender, religion, etc. of the applicants
