I was able to. I was logged on as Administrator and had to answer all of
the security questions that Vista was throwing at me. Other than that, I
didn't have a problem on the install. And, that was in a virtual
environment, and that was a trial version of BDS2006.

the price of playing with beta OS's which are designed round .net2 and
are very buggy.

Which 'virtual environment' are you using? I have tried VMWare but have
not been any to load Vista Beta 2.
Edwin
That's it, that is exactly the right word!
:-)

Weird, I have in both player and workstation
what problems have you had?
I haven't used Vista that much, but the beta2 seems quite stable.
And it's not Windows Vista that is giving me trouble, it's the Delphi 2006
installer that won't get past the stupid prerequisite check.

Did you do the pre-req's by hand see if that bypasses it?

Did you follow any instructions, could you share them with me. Is it Beta
2? Do you see the 'pretty' grahics, I heard that VMWare Graphic card does
not support the fancy graphics? Is that true.
Thanks

You will get a warning that .Net 1.1 is not 'safe' or something like that
but just go on.
The only thing I am troubling with is the files in the Program Files.
It seems to me that you can't modify the files in this folder, so you can't
use any of the demo files.
Just copy the files to another folder and here you go.
But I think this is due to the fact that I never tried Vista before.
If you need more info on how to install BDS2006 please let me know.

Sounds about what I did.
new vm, went through, selected vista as the guest, created fixed size
disk..
If you're having problems head to www.vmware.com/community sad acts
like me seem to live there, and someone will probably recognise the
exact spot yours died and and go "Hey did you do this" ..

Nope, mine looks fine.. Id say it has fancy graphics (to the point I
wish it didnt!)
Can you elaborate on that please?
Exactly what did you install?

I got that warning too. Clicking cancel doesn't work and when I accepted it
seemed to install the .net 11 framework and the Delphi 2006 installer
stopped anyway.

Thanks, I might just hold you to that :-)
That sounds promising, but for the life of me I can't find where to
uninstall .net 1.1 framework.
I can't find it in control panel, uninstall programs, or anywhere else.
The closet thing I can find is the folders as you can see in this image:
http://www.tolderlund.eu/vistadotnet.bmp
But that doesn't tell me where to uninstall it.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks.
Maybe I will upgrade later this week.
And I have been on vmware community site and their newsgroups. It seems
like for some it works others it does not
Thanks

When I first installed the CD of BDS2006 the installer was checking for the
prerequisted software.
After some errors I ended the installation.
Just use the windows explorer for the cd.
Install all of the programs below (in this order). Just ignore all warnings,
BDS2006 is very stable on my computer.
folder dotnetRedist -> dotnetfx.exe
folder dotnetSDK -> setup.exe
folder dotnetJSharp -> vjredist.exe
folder JRE -> j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe
folder MSXML -> msxml.msi
Please restart the computer.
folder Install -> setup.exe <--- BDS2006 installation
You don't have to install dotnet 2.0 because it's part of Vista.
Maybe not everything is installed using the procedure as above but it works
fine for me.
Instead of "folder Install -> setup.exe <--- BDS2006 installation" you can
run the Install.exe in the root of the cd.
It should work because everthing you need is already installed.
If it doesn't work please use the "folder Install -> setup.exe <--- BDS2006
installation"
Don't forget to install update1, update2 and all its hotfixes for BDS2006

IMHO you need at least 12 GB of disk space for setup, final size is about 7 GB.

The word to describe it is "Security"...
For years folks have bitched and moaned that Microsoft's operating systems
have little or no security so now that Vista begins to correct that problem
even Administrators shouldn't be surprised that they need to learn a few new
tricks. ;-)
For the last few months I have been testing several "home-brewed" Delphi
Win32 apps on Vista as each new build is released. Except for 16 bit (not
supported on Vista) Delphi apps I have had no major problems getting apps
to install.
I haven't tried to install Delphi 2006 but wouldn't be surprised if Vista
balked over installing .NET 1.1 and further down in this thread Peter
Herijgers details a procedure he used to get the prerequisites installed.
To install most apps:
---------------------------
Right click on the install.exe choose the compatability tab and check the
box "run in XP mode" then right click again and select "run as
adminastrator".
When the install has successfully completed go the the folder where the app
resides and right click and select the properties compatability tab to run
in XP mode and select the security tab and select the Users profile and
press edit and check the "allow full control" box.
Here are a couple of tools that people testing Delphi apps on Vista may find
useful.

The Standard User Analyzer helps developers and IT professionals diagnose
issues that would prevent a program from running properly without
administrator privileges. On Windows Vista, even administrators run most
programs with standard user privileges by default, so it is important to
ensure that your application does not have administrator access as a
dependency.

Virtual PC 2004.

This worked fine.
Thank you for your help.
Regards.
Now I'm trying to register the product.
It won't by itself and apparently the web register page
http://reg.borland.com doesn't work with Windows Vista??
Why, oh why, does it have to be so difficult?
