I have been using QS for a long time and I thought I knew how it
worked....not an expert by any means but I know may way around the
program's basic functions.

I am running an updated QS on updated Leopard. QS opens as it should,
but whatever I type in the subject box I get weird actions. For
example, if I type "address" to open Address Book I get Large Type
only. I don't get any options to open the Address Book.

I looked under Preferences>All Actions and Run is #1, Show Contact #2,
Play (iTunes) #3, etc. which is the order I set up. But nothing is
working the way it used to.

I reset it....same result. I uninstalled it and reinstalled
it....same result.

What happened and how do I fix it?

Thanks for your help.

sounds like your QS window is going into text mode for some reason.
double check in your trigger preferences that the QuickSilver 'command
window in text mode' trigger is something else?
if you bring up the qs window and it is still in text mode, try
hitting esc once and then type again.
you also may be activating text mode because you're typing too much(!)
i reach address book from just typing as far as 'ad'. try unchecking
the 'switch to text mode if no match found' if that's on too...

For example, if I start QS then I type "iT" it gives me iTunes as the
first option. I click on it and open iTunes. This is good.

Then, I click "Ad" looking for Adium or Address Book. Nothing happens
except Large Type.

Then, I try "iT" again and I don't get iTunes...I just get Large Type.

It's really weird. This problem is happening on my G5 desktop with
PPC microprocessors. I have a MacBook Pro with Intel microprocessors
and I cannot duplicate this problem on that machine. I wonder if the
Intel/PPC issue is the problem with the latest QS release? I am
grasping at straws, I know, but this problem is really irritating
because it just popped up "out of the blue."

Try this:

Open QS's preferences, choose the Preferences tab at the top, and then
Command in the sidebar. Make sure that Spacebar behaviour is not set
to Switch to Text Mode, and make sure that Switch to Text Mode if No
Match is Found is deactivated.

If that doesn't work, then go to the Triggers tab and select
Quicksilver from the sidebar. Either deactivate the Command Window in
Text Mode trigger, or else edit the trigger to use a different key
combination.

Do you have Switch to Text Mode If No Match is Found activated in the
Command section of the Preferences tab of Quicksilver's preferences?
What is the spacebar behaviour set to there? Do you have the trigger
active for Command Window in Text Mode in the Quicksilver section of
the Triggers tab?

Thanks a lot for your help. I think I figured it out while following
your troubleshooting. Somehow, the keyboard preferences were reset to
default and I was having conflicts with the keyboard preferences and
QS triggers. I think it is under control now, but I have to be
careful it doesn't happen again.
