Hello people!

I've noticed that the dictionary's plug-in is not working, I've tried
to reinstall completely the quicksilver, but still haven't work,
always when I trie to make a new consult with the dictionary, it send
me a message saying that "it could not be found."

Any suggestions? thanks for your help and congratulations with the
app, I couldn't live now without it.

Are you running 10.4 or 10.5? In 10.4, Dictionary had a bug that
would often cause it to fail to search for a word passed to it via the
Services menu if the app wasn't already running. This affected QS
because QS used the same mechanism to pass words to Dictionary. In
10.5 this bug has been fixed.

If you are running 10.5, the problem lies somewhere else, and it might
be something we can fix. But if you are on 10.4, the only fix is to
upgrade to 10.5.

I'm experiencing the same problem with B54 on Leopard. Thesaurus
doesn't work either.

I'm running 10.5, while in 10.4 the dictionary plugin was working
great, with the 10.5 it's always giving the same mistake, I've tried
to uninstall the app and install it again, but still doesn't work.

thanks for your help

Ah, I think I see what might be happening.

There are in fact three different ways by which Quicksilver can look
up words in a dictionary:

One is by using a plugin called Dictionary Module. This looks up
words by searching dict.org, and adds an action called Define with
dict.org, which opens a floating palette window containing the
definition(s) of the word found on dict.org. This is working fine on
my system.

However, Dictionary Module also appears to install two other
undocumented actions called Dictionary and Thesaurus which open a
different palette window (including a toolbar with buttons). I do not
know where it is trying to pull definitions from. This second method
does not work on my system.

The third method is by installing the Services Menu Module which will
add all the Services menu items as actions to Quicksilver, including
the Look up in Dictionary action. This is what I use. It was a little
flaky on Tiger (as noted in my previous post), but works flawlessly on
Leopard.

I suggest to you all that you use either the first or third options,
and if you choose the first option that you remove the broken actions
mentioned in the second option from Quicksilver's list of actions.

I should note that the third option use's OS X's own Dictionary.app,
which may or may not be what you prefer. Also, if you choose this
option you can remove the Dictionary Module entirely.

Thanks for this. The dictionary module that I had come to rely on in
Tiger suddenly failed when I got my new Leopard powered iMac. The
services menu module brought it back with a vengeance, and also gives
me one-click access to Wikipedia. Invaluable.
