Since moving to SL, I seem to have lost modifier-only activation
(except when Quicksilver is already in the foreground).

I'm not actually sure the problem is the upgrade, though; I also had a
bad crash and a new logic board installed in the MBP I'm using, so it
could be I have a problem with System Accessibility settings or some
other unrelated thing that's changed since the resurrection.

But: double-Command was my friend, and I miss it.

Modifier only activation is working for me on my iMac. It's an Early
2006 model, with only a Core Duo processor, and System Profiler tells
me that it is not capable of running in 64 bit, so everything is in 32
bit. That may make a difference. See what happens if you open the Get
Info window for Quicksilver.app and tell it to run in 32 bit (I don't
even have the option on my computer, but your MacBook Pro should be 64
bit capable and therefore present the option).

Nevermind my previous suggestion. I just noticed this thread (http://
groups.google.com/group/blacktree-quicksilver/browse_thread/thread/
d84087a8daa55a60?hl=en#). Apparently it is specifically double
modifier activation that is broken, not all modifier only activation.
I use single modifier activation, which works fine in b56a7.

Until double modifier activation is fixed, consider trying single
modifier activation. I personally find it faster and more convenient
to tap ⌘ rather than ⌘⌘.

I was going to add that discovery myself this morning: I'm able to use
single-key activation. Will learn some new typing habits, and live
with what I've got.

Hello all, this is my first message on these boards - great to see
there's still a strong QS community.

I use Multiclutch on my early 2008 MB Pro and in theory a three finger
swipe downwards should invoke QS. This was patchy in Leopard and even
more so in Snow Leopard. My keyboard activation is ⌘-space,
ruthlessly stolen from its former life as Spotlight shortcut.

Same problem with the double-cmd for me too. I'm going to have a hard
time rewiring my brain. Hopefully there's a fix for it soon instead.
Hard to relearn something you do dozens (hundreds?) of times a day.

I too have found that the double-modifier (in my case the Option key)
is broken using the latest QS under Snow Leopard.

It works as long as QS has the focus - say the Pref pane open - but as
soon as another app has focus, the Double-Option doesn't work.

Using a single modifier seems to be a bit of a puzzle for me - how do
you stop QS popping up every time you hit the modifier key for
something else? Or accidentally?

I'm used to using Double-Option for QS, and Double-Command for
GoogleSearchBox (which I rarely use, I must admit).

I'm with jheftmann on this one - a fix would be very welcome, as the
Double-option is burned into my brain...! ;)

Actually I thought I could just adapt to a new keyboard shortcut but I
really haven't found one that works. They're all taken by various
applications already! I tried to use Spotlight's old shortcut but I
remembered quickly why I moved Spotlight away from that – I use that
shortcut in Photoshop many times a day and it would always open
Spotlight (and now QS).

Best solution would be if the issue got fixed. Can't come soon enough!
You don't realize how dependent you are on QS until you don't have it.
