Walking bass lines to me is lead in beats to chord changes or something extra a player can do to put an extra groove in a song.  NOT TO MUCH THOUGH!

If your in B and you are wanting to go to E (your 4 chord in the number system) you could do a million walking bass lines to get to your E (4 chord)

A basic on would be.........using the number system.......1       b7         6        5     4
                                                                                  B       A        G#      F#    E
Just make sure that the beats equal the timing in the song and Just make sure your not rushing bass lines.  There is nothin no worse than hearing notes all cramed together from a bass player.  I found the simpler the better. Listen for what would fit the song and what wouldnt. Listen to Barry Bales, Jason Moore and young gun Jason Chapman there the best at what fits and what dont. It could put more groove/drive in a song if you just rock back and forth doing a 1,5 then putting a whole lot of licks and runs.   Usually as soon as young players find ways to do licks, they want everyone to hear what they can do.......trust me, being on 19 years old, I was like that 2 years ago.  But just listen and usually if it sounds like to much it is.  My favorite players in the world have basically told me to remember  K.I.S.S. I think all know what it means.   I go by it.  Hope this dont confuse anyone.  Cause I am very confused.
