We are presenting a 150 km populaire on this Saturday, 12th November
2011. This is also the launch ride of the brevets starting from 26th
November. The details of the ride are available here:
http://sites.google.com/site/iiscrando/2011-season/nov-2011-arkavathi-150-populaire
The route passes through Kanakpura, Ramanagara and Manchanbele
reservoir following the river Arkavathi upstream. Most of the route is
scenic and quiet.
It involves a good amount of climbing, and will serve as a good
preparatory ride for the brevets. The 200 km brevet shares part of the
route with this ride. So it will help to familiarize with the route.
Any rider can participate in this ride after registering. Online
registration for the ride is free.
Regards
Mustafa

At couple of points in the cue sheet it is mentioned "bad roads". Are these bad roads good enough for me to take my sport one with stock tires?
There are two stretches, about 20 km each, where there are no shops -
one between Kanakpura and Ramanagara, and the other between Ramnagara
and Manchanbele. Rest of the route is very active with plenty of shops
and eateries.

My personal opinion is that this is a nice introduction to
randonneuring and brevets, but not to long distance cycling. You
should have some experience riding long distances over challenging
terrain.

It doesn't matter it's all in the mind first.
What's the worst that can happen? You'll be lost among some beautiful
scenery a few tens of km from bangalore...that's all
:)
Try it if you want to. It's only in the mind (at first).

If you are left brained, you can see the cue sheet.
The cue sheet is so boring because it has no pictures at all. But some
people actually read it (!!) before riding.
This is all theory. In practice what happens is that, usually there is
a big group of cyclists at the start and people just follow someone
else (the few unfortunate ones who happen to be well versed with the
cue sheet and have mugged it up and can tell you what line comes after
what even when their glucose is running out and they are pedaling in
anaerobic conditions) like sheep, and by the theory of the psychology
of group dynamics, a large percentage of people end up successfully
completing a populaire or brevet.
The percentage of people successfully completing the ride is often
proudly advertised. Since this is all so random, there will usually be
a group of people who do not follow the right sheep leaders...
according to the theorem of randomness.
These end up as DNF or Did Not Finish. And this is also proudly
advertised after the ride on the website.
(on a serious note: this route will be nice and scenic (albeit a
little climby), so have a nice ride folks.
Anyway, happy riding have fun!! :D )

Not following the 'official' route?
You will then not be officially doing the populaire, but if your
intention is to have fun with a fun loving group of cyclists, no one
is going to bring in the army to keep you away, you're more than
welcome :)
Please join in and have fun
After all that is the purpose of a populaire i guess ... to make
cycling popular...

Not really. The route is fixed by the organizers.
Obviously you can join anywhere, but it will be an unofficial ride.

You're not the first -- it was pointed out earlier too, but it's
easily explained:
O+ is the most common blood group.
