Chapelli had retired 18 months prior IIRC. He only came out of retirement to
cash in on the Packer circus.

Well no, and what I have argued for years - that at the time of WSC,
Australia was third best in the world (maybe fourth if you consider a South
African team.) England pretty much spanked Australia on that pre-WSC Ashes
tour and the oft claimed excuse that it was the WSC controversy that put
them off their game just doesn't hold water. The truth is that the
ugly-Aussies of the 70's were really only world's best for about 2 years -
74/75 Ashes tour through until Thommo's injury in 76.

I watched a bit of it-IIRC Robinson actually opened in one of those tests.
It was strange to see the styles; I mean it was worth looking at the crowd
as well as the cricket. And Greig had hair.
But if you say that Australian team was not strong; on paper the English
team was not much better. Botham ended up a top class all rounder, and the
bowling attacker was quite good (Hedrick, Botham, Greig and Willis) but
there were no exceptional batsman. Who remembers Graham Roope?
