Google Will Include ‘Assistant’ In Android 5.0 Jelly Bean To Rival Siri

POSTED BY ADNAN

The innovations we see from big companies such as Apple and Google are often similar to each other. This is why such companies are involved in litigation in a number of countries around the world. However, that doesn’t stop them from innovating. Apple took the whole world by surprise when they announced Siri with iPhone 4S back in October last year.

Something of this sort had never been included in a smartphone before. Siri is the ultimate virtual personal assistant, and probably the defining factor behind rising sales of iPhone 4S. Google is reportedly working on a similar service currently dubbed ‘Assistant’. This service will be included in the company’s next major mobile platform update, Android 5.0 Jelly Bean.

There has been a long running debate about which mobile operating system is better. Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android. Both of these platforms are quite different from each other. Apple chooses to keep it’s platform closed, meaning that the company has strict rules about app approvals and modification to its software. Google on the other hand chooses a more open approach.

They license Android to dozens of manufacturers around the world who have the ability to make modifications. Apple doesn’t allow users to tinker with Siri, but Google will reportedly keep ‘Assistant’ open. Allowing users to creates new uses for this service via an API.

Just last year Google finally released Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the public. Currently only 1% of all Android devices are supported by the new update. Majority of old devices do not support Android 4.0. Surely Google will ensure sufficient spread of Android 4.0 before it even considers releasing another major update to Android operating system. At this point in time not much is known about Android 5.0 Jelly Bean. Though we can count on one thing. Google will put in a lot of hard work to bring it’s platform up to Apple’s level, if not make it better.
