It’s nearly February, the month that Apple is meant to announce its next 4G LTE enabled iPad, before then supposedly selling it to consumers from some time in March, so here’s the top 10 feature demands the world’s rumourmongers have cooked up and that we’re expecting.
It’s been almost a year since the iPad 2 was officially announced and brought into the world, and certainly a year has already elapsed if you take pre-launch manufacturing into account.
But with a new year comes a new expectation of a new iPad, and as always, everyone’s expecting it to be better than ever, and people are hoping for as few iDisappointments as possible.
1. The first feature demand for the iPad 3 is that it actually ends up being called the iPad 3, rather than the iPad 2S or the iPad something else.
2. The second feature demand is that the iPad 3 come ready to go with 4G LTE technology, rather than Apple making us all wait for a possible “iPad 4G” next year.
LTE 4G networks are here and now and are steadily growing in size. Second generation 4G LTE chipsets are here are now, and are more power efficient, so hopefully… the iPad 3 will soon be here and now with 4G built in, while naturally offering 3.5G, 3G and 2G fallback as required.
3. A Retina-Display class 9.7-inch screen with 2048 x 1536 resolution, something that would give the iPad 3 the highest resolution in its class, outstripping the 1920 x 1080 res tablets that Android makers have cooked up. Along with that new Gorilla Glass 2 for better anti-scratchability.
4. A five, eight or better megapixel camera on the back of the iPad 3, along with an LED flash, although an LED flash is rumoured to not be part of the equation. We’d also like to see a higher resolution front facing camera for clearer Facetime and Skype sessions when we decide to use the iPad for videoconferencing.
5. Siri being built in as standard, something that seems natural to expect, but with Apple liking to be unpredictable, anything’s obviously possible.
6. An A6 “quad-core” processor, much faster GPU for better graphics and 1GB of RAM.
7. Even longer battery life through some kind of magical battery chemistry revolution, although 10 hours is still the benchmark tablet battery life established by Apple in the first place.
8. A brand new 128GB iPad model, doubling the 64GB maximum of the previous generation.
9. It’d be nice to see SD/MicroSD/USB/HDMI/Thunderbolt and other ports appear on the iPad 3, even though this would be as likely as the now “dead” tablet version of Adobe Flash ever appearing on any iPad.
10. Either a surprise 7-inch iPad 3, or a cheaper iPad 2 model to shake up the tablet market even more than Apple does whenever it releases a new iPad.
11. Bonus 11th feature demand that might have to wait until an iPad 4 or 5 in the future: an iPad with a hybrid Mac OS X and iOS operating system, complete with easily attachable keyboard (with trackpad), bringing the best of the MacBook Air and the iPad into a single unit.

12. Bonus 12th feature: there are requests out there for NFC (near field communications), wireless charging, even haptic feedback... but we'll just have to see what happens on those fronts.
Let's just hope the iPad 3 is announced in February some time, and isn't stretched out for weeks beyond March!
