Dear Android Open-Source Project community,

Effective immediately, the latest official graphics drivers for crespo
(i.e. Nexus S hardware) are available for download from Google's
servers at the following address:
http://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/imgtec-crespo-grh78-12c7db93.tgz

Those go hand-in-hand with the Android platform source code tagged as
android-2.3.1_r1. Run the self-extracting script from the root of the
source tree (that script is contained in the archive), do a clean
build of full_crespo-userdebug (which is part of the lunch menu), and
the resulting system will support graphics acceleration (including 3D
launcher, live wallpapers, camera preview).

As you read the included license terms, please pay special attention
to the aspects related to redistributing and granting rights to your
users, as those are new, and we expect that they'll make life easier
for the enthusiast community.

Since this is a major step forward for the Android Open-Source
Project, a large number of people at Imagination Technologies and
Google deserve some special thanks for making this possible. I won't
mention them all (for fear of forgetting someone), but they know who
they are.

We're working with other vendors to extend the list of drivers for
which such downloads are available, and to distribute the Nexus S
factory images.

Enjoy!

Those are identical to those we get if we run the extract-files.sh to
get proprietary files on/off the phone, correct?

The files themselves are supposed to identical. The big difference is
that they now come with a license that explicitly grants specific
rights, and that license is meant to open up more possibilities,
especially around redistribution.

Hi,

In another post from JBQ:
With the audio code, the camera code and the NFC code being Open-
Source, Crespo opens up a lot of new possibilities for contributions
and experiments. In the family of devices ever supported in AOSP,
Crespo is the one with the fewest non-Open-Source drivers so far
(really: 3D, RIL, GPS, sensors, plus some firmware blobs).

Does the link: http://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/imgtec-crespo-grh78-12c7db93.tgz
contain all non-open source drivers for the Nexus S or only the
graphics drivers? In the latter case, can these be found elsewhere?

Regards,
Johan

The link in question only contains the graphics drivers. As I
mentioned in my original post, we're working with the owners of the
other drivers to distribute them under similar terms. Details will be
posted here when such files become available.
