Some time ago I posted a message where I asked for advice what to do as we
forgot to send I-751 form on time (actually we were late almost 1 month -
Application to remove conditional residential status).
We got some replies from people. Somebody adviced to get a lawyer as it
might have been serious. We did contact a lawyer who asked for "only" 1000$
to prepare papers for us. Unfortunately we couldnt afford paying that much
at this time and I decided to do it without anybody's help. We wrote a cover
letter explaining why we were late, we made copies of bank statements and
enclosed letters (notirized) from friends who have known us as a married
couple for years, our son's birth certificate etc. After about 3 weeks I got
a Notice of Action from INS which was basically tha same as they would have
written to a person who DID send the application on time. i got extension of
my green car (work and travel authorization and they said it would take
about 6 months to process)

The thing is that if you act in good faith and everything is OK you dont
need a lawyer as you didnt commit any crime. Thats why I decided to do it on
my own as I didnt see any reason to get a lawyer. If you are smart you dont
need to "dump" 1000$ to soembody who knows less about your case. Just read
INS instruction and you'll be fine.

Somebody even warned me about people being arrested just beacause they were
born in wrong country. Does it mean I was born in the right country (which
is POland and we do help USA sending our combats soldier and commandos to
Iraq)What does terrorist have in common with my application? I have my
family life and we just want to keep our family together and we were late
because of our family stuff going on (busy with work, my son who has allergy
problems etc).

I wanted let you know that its not always necessary to panic about stuff
that IS important. Its a question of trust and good will.
