Chuck Barris hosts. A beauty show with some unconventional
contestants. From the 50 greatest game shows.

-tournament wins 2-11. very exciting bonus rounds, most feature great
winning celebrations and the entire audience joining on stage. #3
features stabbing blooper. #8 features ‘things that sag’ blooper and a
27 second win.
– 5 episodes with Lois Nettleton and Nipsey Russell. Lynn (a former
winner on Press Your Luck, see 3/18/85 ep), reaches the top of the
pyramid in 29 seconds, almost a record.

-$1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime, 4 eps (non-gsn), Who wants to be a
millionaire wasn’t the first show to offer a million, this show from
1986-1987 was! Couples answer Wheel of Fortune type puzzles with

couples to win the million, including the first couple to do so.

(Winston Churchill’s son) as a contestant (?!) Basically, a who wants
to be a millionaire type show, but with no multiple choice.

-All about faces (non-gsn) – Guests are shown a face from their past,
and try to guess who it is. Tom Reynolds hosts. Starts with actress
Margaret O’Brien. With original commercials, including one with the
Untouchables featuring Robert Stack.

-All Star Blitz (ABC) – Peter Marshall hosts. Show is part Hollywood
Squares, part Wheel of Fortune, part New Battlestars. Premiere ep from
4/8/85, Colleen vs. Tim

-Baby Game (non-gsn) – Couples try to guess the outcome of
competitions featuring kids. Richard Hayes hosts. George & Caroline
vs. Gloria & Lloyd.

-Bargain Hunters (non-gsn) – contestants try to determine which prizes
are bargains. Peter Tomarken hosts. Starts off with Debbie vs. Mark

-Beat the clock – Contestants compete in various stunts and try to
complete them in the allotted time. Three eps, first is non-gsn, from
10/13/51 and begins with Mr. & Mrs. Greiger with Bud Collyer hosting.
Second is from gsn, from 9/15/56, last episode with Fresh Deodorant as
sponsor and historic $64,000 win with Bud Collyer hosting. Third is
with Brad & Sue Ann vs. Brad & Peter with Monty Hall hosting.

-Beat the odds (non-gsn) Contestants spin 2 slot machines, if 2
letters appear, they must form a word that starts and ends with those
letters. If a whammy appears, they lose their turn. Starts with Arnold
vs. Mildred. With original commercials.

-Big Payoff (non-gsn) – pilot episode. Game is played outdoors, with
passing automobiles as a noise distraction. Announcer keeps calling
the host by the wrong name. Premise of game show is for both
contestants to answer a trivia question involving amounts, and
whosever closer wins that question.

-Big Showdown – (non gsn): only episode known to still be in
existence, Host Jim Peck falls down the stairs to start. Contestants
answer trivia questions, the winner rolls the dice hoping to get the
‘big showdown’ Andy/Diane/Mike

-Bingo at home (non-gsn) –Game is how it sounds, Monty Hall hosts.
With original commercials.

-Blackout – (CBS) – Contestants record 20 second audio descriptions of
words while their partner puts on headphones. The recording is played
back, but their opponents can censor up to 7 seconds of the recording.
Markie Post among guests, Bob Goen hosts. Lisa vs. Jan.

-Blankety blanks – show is kind of hart to describe. Anne Meara and
William Shatner are the guests, Bill Cullen hosts. Bill vs. Kathy.

-Boggle (FAM) It’s boggle for your t.v.! Wink Martindale hosts. Alex/
Ken/Regina/Deanna.

-Break the bank (non-gsn). Black and white game show.

-Break the bank (GAME) – 3 episodes. Hollywood Squares type show. A
4x5 grid with a celebrity at the top of each column and beginning of
each row. A contestant picks a square and the celebrities in that
column and row answer the same question (often with hilarious
results), one is right and one is wrong. If the contestant guesses
which one is right, a prize amount (usually) is revealed, 3 like
amounts wins. First episode is Fred vs. Dixie with Tom Kennedy hosting
and celebrities including Alex Karras, Sandy Duncan, Jan Murray.
Second episode is with Tom Kennedy hosting, Barbara vs. Ralph, stars
include Jan Murray, Lynda Carter and Joann Pflug. Third episode is
with Jack Barry hosting, stars include Nipsey Russell, Shelly Winters,

-Camoflauge – (non-gsn) – contestants try to find hidden objects in a
piece of artwork. Johnny Gilbert hosts with original commercials.

-Can you top this – (non-gsn) Wink Martindale hosts, Richard Dawson
among panelists. Joke telling game show.

-Card Sharks – Norma Brown wins the maximum $28,800 in the bonus
round, only player ever to do so (GAME)

-Challengers – (USA). Jeopardy type show, an April Fool’s Day joke is
played on the contestants (immensely difficult categories). Dick Clark

-Chance of a Lifetime – (non-gsn). Please note this is not the
$1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime. Early version of Star Search,

champion

-Classic Concentration – (NBC): Contestants try to match prizes in
this memory style game, while simultaneously uncovering a rebus
puzzle. A similar game is played in the bonus round for a car. Alex
Trebek hosts. 2 episodes, first is 1000th episode: Judy vs. Dave,
second is Wendy vs. Sean

-College Mad House – (non-gsn) Like Fun House, except with college
students. Greg Kinnear hosts. Washington State Huskies vs. Oregon
Ducks.

-Crossword – (non-gsn): pilot episode, George Fenneman hosts. Michael
Landon is among guests. Crossword, where several of the clues to each
puzzle relate. Host messes up on this episode. Ari vs. Patti

-Dollar a second – Show is kind of hard to describe, contestants earn
a dollar second as long as they can stay on the stage. Episodes starts
off with Bernice as contestant.

-Double Dare – 2 generic eps, kid’s game show with kids participating
in messy physical challenges, and answering questions. Marc Summers
hosts.

-Double Talk – (ABC) Betty White among guest stars, contestants are
shown a synonym of a cliché expression, and must determine the
expression. Henry Pollock II hosts. Premier episode from 8/18/1986,
Babs vs. Alice

-Dream House – (non-gsn) – couples try to win their dream house by
winning a room at a time. Mike Darrow hosts, with original
commercials. Pam & Doyle vs. Susan & Jerry

-Eye Guess – Contesants are briefly shown a tic tac toe board with 8
subjects on it, and are asked questions that they try to match with
the subjects. Bill Cullen hosts. Starts off with Mildred playing the
bonus round.

-Face is familiar – (non-gsn) Bill Cullen among guests. Contestants
are shown parts of a famous person’s face, all scrambled, and try to
determine who it is. Premiere episode, Nathan vs. Phyllis

-Family Challenge – (non-gsn) Families compete in double dare type
stunts. Richard Combs, who is acting like he is on speed, hosts.
Fields vs. Cohens.

-Family Feud – 4 eps, first is the famous “September” answer, with
Richard spending half the show laughing hysterically (GSN), second is
York vs. Lewis and a horrid fast money playing (“name an animal with
three letters in its name” “frog” “alligator”, third is a game with
lots of bad answers (the “morning, night, tea bag episodes) (GSN),
fourth is finale with Richard receiving a standing ovation and giving
an emotional farewell speech, with a few laughs as well (GAME)

-Finder’s keepers – (GAS) kid’s game show, where contestants try to
find hidden images, and objects hidden in rooms.

-Fun House (NICK) kid’s game show, contestants answer questions and
participate in physical challenges, with the winning team having the
privilege to go through the fun house, 2 eps: New York day and New
England day, J.D. Roth hosts. Soleil Moon Frye and Jeremy Miller are
guests on the New York Day ep.

-Gambit. (see also Las Vegas Gambit). Contestants answer trivia
questions while simultaneously playing black jack. Wink Martindale
hosts. Livingstons vs. Ferraros Livingston have an amazing bonus round
run.

-Get the message – (non-gsn) final ep, Password type show, guest stars
include Orson Bean, Arlene Francis & Mitch Miller. Robert Lewis hosts.

-Go – Show is hard to describe. Premiere episode with Kevin O’Connell
hosting, and guests including Richard Kind (GAME)

-Going, going, gone – (non-gsn): announcing. There are 4 cups, a piece
of paper with the name of a prize is placed in all but one of the
cups. Richard switches the cups around (a la the Shell Game on the
Price is Right) and the contestants bid on the cups. Richard is not a
fair auctioneer. Richard Lewellyn hosts and Tom Reynolds

-Gong Show – (GSN) Talent show with some unusual ‘talent’. Guest
judges include Steve Martin and Arte Johnson. Judges get booed at one
point. Chuck Barris hosts. From the 50 greatest game show

-Haggis Baggis – (non-gsn) Dennis James hosts. Haggis Baggis is the
name of a department store. Winning contestants can choose from 2
prize packages (Haggis or Baggis). Losing contestant can win the other
package if they choose which one the winning contestant didn’t. Ms.
Sheehan decimates all of her opponents on this episode. Contestants
play a scattergories type game and each correct answers reveals
another panel to a famous face. With original commercials.

-He Said/She Said (GSN) John Davison, Sally Field, Nanette Fabares,
Alejanrdo Rey, and their spouses. With the wives secluded backstage,
the husbands recall stories that happened with their wives, and sum
them up in one word. The wives try to guess which word applies to
them. Then they switch off. Joe Garigoiola hosts

-High Rollers (NBC) 2 eps, first one with original commercials Mary
Ann Sanders vs. Cheryl Van Rensler, second is finale (bad quality)
with Alex Trebek drunk, he says all sorts of weird things like “$700
is casharoo” and “Stayin’ alive with the Bee Gees”, Richard vs. Betty.
Contestants try to roll certain combinations of numbers on the dice.
Alex Trebek hosts.

-Hit Man – (NBC) Contestants answer questions to a factual story they
are told beforehand. The final ep with the famous “Wanna be a
contestant on Hit Man, forget it!” by Rod Roddy. Peter Tomarken hosts.
Short-lived show, but bigger things were in store for Peter and Rod.
From 4/1/83, Topics are Gene Kelly and vice presidents, Maureen/Randy
West/Janet

-Hold that note (non-gsn) Bert Parks hosts. Name that tune type show.
Tina destroys all of her opponents.

-Hollywood Squares: 4 episodes, first episode is hosted by Peter
Marshall and guest stars include Vincent Price and Barbara Mandrell,
Bob vs. Verlena, Second episode is hosted by Peter Marshall and guest
stars include Vincent Price and Tom Poston, JD vs Kathy (both of these
are NBC airings), Third episode is hosted by John Davidson, guest
stars include Joan Rivers, Shadoe Stevens, Jim J. Bullock, Gladys
Knight and Rich Little, Phillip vs. Laura (USA airing), Fourth episode
is with Peter Marshall hosting and guest stars include Paul Lynde,
Harvey Korman, Wally Cox and Sandra Dee, (GSN airing from the 50
greatest game shows)

-Hot Potato (GSN). Teams are asked questions that have several right
answers. If a player gives a wrong answer (either on their own or
after being challenged) they are knocked out of the round and have to
sit on the bench. Round continues until a team gets the last right
answer or all of their opponents are knocked out. Bill Cullen hosts,
Accountants vs. Car saleswomen

I’ll bet: (non-gsn) – Jack Narz hosts. Celebrity couples try to guess
whether or not their spouse will know the answer to a question, and
make a bid on it.

-I’m telling. Kind of like the newlywed game, except with young
siblings instead of married couples. Laurie Fazo hosts.

-It’s Anybody’s guess – show is kind of hard to describe. Monty Hall
hosts. Joe vs. Denise

-It’s Your Bet: (non-gsn) - 2 episodes. First is from 10/2/1969 with
Tom Reynolds as host and Imogene Coca and Lyle Waggoner as guests.
Second episode is with Hal March hosting and Jan Murray among guests.
Couples try to guess whether or not their spouse will know the answer
to a question, and make a bid on it.

-I’ve got a Secret (GSN) – Celebrity panelists try to determine the
guest’s secret. 2 eps, first is with Cliff Robertson as guest. Bert
Convy, Richard Dawson, and Jayne Meadows among panelists. Second is
with Rod Serling as guest and Richard Dawson among panelists. Steve
Allen hosts Also includes actors who are the voices of Snoopy &
Charlie Brown, and a foot painter.

-Jackpot! – (non-gsn), the King or Queen of the hill picks a player
from the pool of 15, and that person reads their riddle. If they
answer incorrectly, they change places. One of the players from the
pool has a jackpot riddle. Mike Darrow hosts. Super jackpot win of
$8,200. Starts off with Cyndi as Queen of the hill

-Jeopardy! 2 eps: 1st appears to be from the mid 80’s, a triple $0 tie
(Greg/Lynn/Paul) 2nd ep is Ken Jennings final regular episode. Ken
Jennings/Nancy Zerg/David

Joker! Joker! Joker! – one ep, Bobby vs. Christina. Bobby is very
anxious and hilarious (GAME)

-Joker’s Wild – (GAME) debut ep, Trivia show where contestants play a
slot machine to determine categories and prizes. The audience
constantly chides Ed for picking the feminine categories over the
masculine ones. Jack Berry hosts.

-Junior Partner Pyramid – Like pyramid, but with adults and children
as partners. 2 eps: One civilian episode. One celebrity episode with
original commercials from 9/2/79 with guests including Tony Danza and
a young Rob Lowe: emotional win.

-Last Word. Contestants are shown 3 mini wheel of fortune type puzzles
that all relate to each other, with letters being revealed constantly.
Wink Martindale hosts. Edie McClurg among guests. Dick vs. Alex.

-Las Vegas Gambit – (NBC): 3 eps First ep: O’Neills vs. Petersons.
Second ep with original commercials: Roetemeyers vs. Prevites (missing
intro), third episode is with Nessa & Leon vs. Ray & Janice (finale).
Contestants answer trivia questions while simultaneously playing black
jack. Wink Martindale hosts.

-Legends of the Hidden Temple – kid’s game show, contestants try to
memorize a story recited to them to answer trivial questions, and they
participate in physical challenges as well. Mask of Shakazulu ep,
record-breaking win. Kurt Fog hosts.

-Liar’s Club (non-gsn) – 2 epsiodes. First with Rod Serling hosting,
and Betty White, Norm Crosby and Bill Bixby among panelists. Judy vs.
Tom, second with Allen Ludden hosting, and David Letterman and Betty
White among panelists. The Panel is shown unusual objects, and they
all tell stories about what the object is and what it does. All but
one of them are lying. Contestants try to guess who is telling the
truth.

-Make the Grade (GAS) - kid’s quiz show. Frank destroys his opponents.
Lew Schneider hosts. Jannelle/Frank/Liani

-Make the connection (GSN) Stogey Carmichael guests, Betty White,
Eddie Baracken, Gloria DeHaven among celebrity panelists. Gene Rayburn
hosts. A pair of guests are shown, and celebrity panelists try to
determine what their connection is. Starts off with a woman who
accompanied her daughter and son-in-law on their honeymoon.

-Masters of the Maze – rare (non-gsn) Contesants help their partner
navigate a maze, Mario Lopez hosts.

-Match Game – 2 eps, the first isthe infamous “Cuckoo, friend and
Ollie” episode, with a riot breaking out on stage. 2nd is with Jack
Klugman going nuts after contestant wins 20k on super match (GAME)

-Monopoly – (ABC) Michael Reilly hosts. Final ep. Contestants answer
trivia questions for properties. If more than one contestant owns
properties in a color group, a tiebreaking question(s) decides who
gets the monopoly. Michael says the show will be back for next season
which never happened. From 9/1/90, Tom/Debra/Tripp

-Music Bingo (non-gsn) Johnny Gilbert hosts, with original
commercials. Game is like it sounds with both contestants using the
same bingo card.

-Name’s the same – Two episodes, first episode is non-gsn and starts
off with Jesse James, panelists include Gene Rayburn, Joan Alexander
and Miss America Beth Myerson, Dennis James hosts. Second episode is
GSN and starts off with Rita Hayworth, Xavier Cougat guests, panelists
include Joan Alexander, Robert Q. Lewis hosts. . Each contestant’s
name is the same of that of a famous person, place or thing, and the
panel asks questions to try to determine it.

-Neighbors (rare, non-gsn) –. Like the Newlywed Game, except with
neighbors. Regis Philbin hosts.Gale vs. Sharon

-New Battlestars – (NBC): debut episode, stars are Jim J Bullock,
Vicki Lawrence, Glen Scarpelli, Erik Estrada, Debbie Reynolds and Tom
Wopat. Alex Trebek hosts
Hilarity ensues as Debbie Reynolds keeps getting her questions wrong.

-Oh my word! (non-gsn) Balderdash type game show with Jim Lange
hosting.

-On your way (non-gsn) Contesants with hard luck stories hope to
answer trivia questions right for a trip. With original commercials.

-Pantomime quiz: (non-gsn) game is how it sounds, Mike Stokey hosts,
Vincent Price among guests.

-Password (non-gsn) 2 eps.First is with Lucille Ball among guests,
with original commercials. Dick Patterson vs. Esa Patterson (husband
and wife?) 2nd is with Carol Burnett among guests. Allen Ludden hosts

-Password Plus 3 eps, first is with guest stars are Carol Burnett and
Vicki Lawrence, Walt vs. Eileen. Great episode. Walt is very nervous.
Carol briefly breaks out into Eunice. Vicki knows the answer to a
puzzle, but doesn’t know what it’s called, Carol gets the answer to a
puzzle after only one clue, much to her surprise. Allen tells Vicki
she has a “slender Oriental pair”, which causes Carol to laugh
hysterically. Vicki appears to swear (edited out) (GSN) 2nd ep is
Carol Burnett show (Carol Burnet/Vicki Lawrence) vs. Hello Larry.
Allen Ludden hosts. 3rd is with guests Betty White and Dick Martin,
the French/France blooper. Tom Kennedy hosts. (GAME)

-Pitfalls – (non-gsn). Contestants try to determine how the audience
responds to questions. Bonus round features contestants trying to
avoid the ‘pitfalls’. Sonny vs. Sharon. Sharon is the all-time champ
at this point, Alex Trebek hosts.

-Place the face – (non-gsn). Guests include Joann Gilbert and Xavier
Cougat. Guests, including celebrities, are shown a face from their
past, and try to determine who it is, with original commercials. Bill
Cullen hosts, who appears to be on speed in this episode

-Play your hunch (GSN) generic ep. Contestants try to determine the
correct answer from a variety of puzzles and games. Merv Griffin
hosts. Johnathan Winters guests, and contestants try to determine
which of three women is his wife.

-Play the Percentages. (USA) Contestants are given a question, and try
to determine what percentage of the people asked that same question
said they knew the answer. Hosted by Geoff Edwards, who accidentally
reveals an answer in this ep. Bernstein vs. Williams
