DVD players have been put in the same aisle as VCRs instead of in a
separate display.
It looks like FOX's theory of DVD cannabilizing VHS sales is correct,
but I'll bet that even they didn't think it would be so much, so soon.

Before you buy.
What about [Wal-Mart members-only offshoot] Sam's Club?--Haven't checked lately.

As I said years ago, never underestimate the sexiness of a movie on a 5"
disc. Bye bye VHS!

The one near me had them out amongst the VHS up until a few months ago.
Then they moved them over to the electronics dept. in a glass case all
stacked together. It made browsing nearly impossible, but I guess that
DVD is doing well. Otherwise, they wouldn't have locked them up.
Prices were somewhere between retail and your average online store.
Not too bad, but I've seen better...

sam's only carries the stuff that *really* sells. (in all prioduct
categories) You'll never see a huge selection there. But if you want
whats hot now, they will be selling it.
Look at books. They have NY Times best sellers, plus a few other
things, and that's it. Not barnes and Noble, but if you want to pick
of a top 10 seller hard back, a 50 gallon drum of pickles, and a set
of tires for your car at one store, Sams is the place to go.

fry's in Dallas is the same way. DVD section huge, VHS is tiny. Best
Buy has a great selection too. Isles packed with people. VHS ailes
are a ghost town.
