Around 1492, the year when Cuba was discovered, he came to Florence. He
accompanied Michelangelo to hear fiery sermons. Some decades later, it
was he who informed the Russians about the discovery of Cuba. By then
he had spent many years in prison for crimes including mistranslation.
Who was he? Any reasonable version of his name will be accepted.
