Explanation:
Abelard and (H)Eloise's son was called Astralabe/Astralabius, probably
after the instrument. In the year Astralabe was born, Abelard was
castrated for having fathered him. Astrolabes were then simple
planispheres and were mostly used for things like astrology rather than
steering ships.
