Frank's room was nothing special...ho-hum
Christy...finally a nice room. The painted kitchen cabinets were a great
improvement over the dark stain.

9:00pm Show
Edward's purple room was dark and depressing...I was surprised
Barry Wood...another failed actor trying to eak a tv career out of
something..anything. I think the worst trading spaces room I've ever
seen...mismatched blues and a country rocker....horrible.

Rick & Barry make me yearn for the days of Kia. By the way...is Kia gone?

I liked Frank's room, and I think this is the first of Christy's
I have liked. The kitchen looked great. Both sets of HOs liked
their rooms.

I loved the purple room. I'm not sure I would actually have it in
my house, 'cause I wouldn't know what to do with the rest of the
house. I generally like dark, rich colors and Edward's styles.

This is the first I have seen or heard of Barry, and I almost saw
more than I should have. :-) I couldn't tell if I liked the blue
wall or not - don't know if it looks different up close. If it
looked like marble, then maybe. I think any flat shade of medium
to light blue should only be in rest area bathrooms with burned
out lightbulbs. And that plastic would have been in the trash
before they left.

>Rick & Barry make me yearn for the days of Kia. By the way...is Kia gone?

I've only seen a couple of Kia's shows. (The grass bedspread
comes to mind.) I wouldn't let her in my house! Or Hildi. Or
Doug. Or Laurie. Good thing I'm not doing the show, eh?

Both shows left me feeling, meh.

Handy Andy is back and won't take their crap, whee.

I wonder what it's going to be like when Lawrence takes over as host. I
assume he won't be doing any designing. And I am totally bummed that Linda
is also bailing after this season.

<<8:00pm Show

I thought Frank's room was fine, especially given what he had to work with.
And as always with Frank, his goal was to create something the homeowners
would like. And he succeeded.
I totally agree about Christy's room. This is the first one of hers I have
really liked.

<<9:00pm Show

I imagine the purple probably looked darker (and worse) on TV than it did in
real life. I am basing that partly on the response of the homeowners. And
although it probably didn't make much difference in this particular room, I
question Edward's bogus concept that every room has to have some black to
anchor it. To me that makes no more sense than Laurie's apparent belief
that every room must have yellow, orange and/or green in it (even if those
colors are disguised with cutesy paint company names like buff, vermillion,
or celedon).
The new guy's room isn't anything I'd want in my own house but I think he
may actually have some design sense lurking deep down inside. I'll have to
see one or two more of his rooms before I decide.

<<Rick & Barry make me yearn for the days of Kia. By the way...is Kia

Nothing short of a lobotomy would make me yearn for Kia.

Kia will be on TS Family next week. The room is great!
I got to see it already because it is in the home of a friend and coworker!

Me too, and frustrated. What happened to good old dependable Edward
who could make ANYTHING look good? The purple was way too glossy, the
whole room was dark, that "entertainment center" is crashing down the
first time the kids try to use it for a swing...ugh. Though I thought
the triptych painting was one of the better TS efforts I'd ever seen.

That's a pretty extreme reaction, but one I can understand perfectly.
It reminded me of the worst of a Frank room (and I love Frank to
death). If he'd stopped at the turquoise glaze and the denim
slipcovers and the turquoise abstract art, I might have been OK with
it. The shelving unit next to the bathroom door was where he started
to go over the top. The ugly country rocker pushed him to the summit.
Then that plastic roofing sheeting shoved him all the way down the
cliff-face. Yuck!

O man, I can't wait for November! The best part about the new shows this
week were the previews of CR meets TS. I'm loving that it looks like Laurie
and Anna Ryder Richardson are going head to head. Linda Barker and Gen
would make a good match too. I'm not sure I saw who was up against Laurence
(Hildy?) - who only gets better and better every season. I will miss his
designing on CR, but the big trade-off is getting to see him in every
episode. And I say "give'em 'ell Andy"!

Re: Vern... I read on the TS boards that both Vern and Gen were taking some
time away from TS to persue their other interests. Vern has a book deal, is
doing a website and has become spokesman for some flooring company (forgot).
Nothing permanent or even long term, but that's why they're not gonna be
around as much as usual. This glut of new folks is not filling the void,
though. It's like wanting my Ben & Jerry's and winding up with plain yogurt
instead. Meh, indeed.

[snip]

I hated the purple room. Especially the whole idea that he tried to make it
"spacey" since she is a science teacher. As a general rule, people don't
want to deal with their professions in their living space - they want a
break ! At least the science stuff wasn't as permanently horrible as Kia's
camouflage room for the poor military family - those folks were practically
in tears...
