As all loyal fans who caught last week's installment knows, we had a whole
lotta news (not a whole lotta lumps) in the short span of 7 simple days,
including the TTA schedule through the end of August, 1993. Ma Nature (or Pa
Kettle) must be resting up, because this week is slower than Tyrone Turtle.
Still, if you missed it all last time around, here's your chance to get
caught up to speed...

While Warner Animation and Steven Spielberg are waffling about the fate of
TINY TOONS, the ladies and gentlemen at the Daytime Emmys have not! For the
third consecutive year, TINY TOON ADVENTURES is a nominee for "Best Animated
Children's Program"!
This year's competition for the prize consist of Batman: The Animated
Series (Warner Animation), Darkwing Duck (Disney), Doug (Nickelodeon), and
Rugrats (also Nickelodeon). Record-keepers will recall that TINY TOONS won
the prize in 1991, the first yearit was nominated, while 1992's winner was
for Nick's RUGRATS.

| Ma Nature (or Pa Kettle) must be resting up, because this week is slower
| than Tyrone Turtle.
Tyrone has stopped entirely. If more TTA episodes are produced and *if*
Tyrone appears in them, someone new will have to be cast, because Edan
Gross's voice has changed. (Phillip Glasser's probably has too, but we
weren't expecting any more of Pedro.)
If we can deal with two Mary Melody chanters (Cindy MacGee [McGee?] in
"Cross-Country Kitty" and Cree Summer in "Robin Hare"; who did her voice
in "Citizen Max"?) we can live through a new Tyrone.
Two people have done Buster's voice too, but that's not important.

You know, looking at the list, it occurred to me to ask: has anyone kept
track of (or kept a feel for) the frequencies with which the various
episodes get shown? IOW, do they favor a certain set of shows and disfavor
another?

I also think that it would be interesting to see what the relative frequencies
of airing of the shows are. I don't think that they can be equal.

Right, that's what got me wondering.

Le sigh . . .
>It's a Wonderful Tiny Toons Christmas Special - are they waiting until nextXMAS?
That's my guess.
>HISMV, 1-4 - never mind, it is missing 173 seconds of the original anyway
Really? Which 173 secs?
>I also think that it would be interesting to see what the relative frequencies
>of airing of the shows are. I don't think that they can be equal.
Maybe they can over the course of years and years, but not within a year,
certainly.
I was not complaining about certain episodes not appearing on the schedule.
I have no reason to complain at all. I was merely pointing out something
that I thought was interesting.
I checked over the list more carefully and found that "Buster's Directorial
Debut" was the only other episode not on the list.
Interestingly, "Career Opportunities" appears THREE times.
However, 132 shows is not a large enough sample to determine whether any
individual episode is being shown more or less often than the others,
but I think that it now appears likely that the XMAS special probably won't
be shown again until XMAS. (just my opinion) (and not a complaint)
I checked the relative frequency with which 1st, 2nd, and 3rd season episodes
appear on the latest TTA-UEG list. (you can tell how bored I must have been)
1st season: each episode is shown an average of 1.508 times
2nd season: ... 1.231 times (excluding HISMV)
3rd season: ... 0.947 times (excluding HISMV1-4 and TFTC)
It seems that the 1st season episodes are shown more often.
(at least for this summer)
I also checked the frequency with which the Kennedy episodes appeared on
the TTA-UEG schedule, and found it to be the MOST shown subset of episodes
of all! (Gag! Retch!) They appear an average of 1.778 times each, but
hopefully this excess is not statistically significant (actually it isn't),
or does Warner still have a thing going for Kennedy???
I just flamed myself again.

I'm glad you asked.
Even though I bought a copy of the HISMV video, I recorded the four episodes
of HISMV when they were broadcast in February. I have recently compared the
video and TV versions of HISMV by playing them simultaneously on two VCR's
and noted every time there was a difference between them. Here's my notes:
(make sure that your tabs are working properly)

Byron: "Woof!" tag "Say goodnight, Babs" tag
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see, all of the animation that was cut out was removed whenever
there was a commercial break or in the intervals between the four parts.
Most of what was cut out is simply linking material, but there are a few
gags that were cut out too, especially in the major 81 second chunk that was
cut out between part I and II. Crazily enough, 6 of those 81 seconds were
inserted without sound after the first commercial break of part III.
(Oh, and also, they didn't broadcast the fruit snacks commercial when
they broadcasted HISMV1-4)
In conclusion, even if you have seen the four parts broadcast and even if
you taped them, you should still buy the video. (or even just rent it)
You missed some good gags, and the continuity of the video was shot to heck.
By the way, in the laser disk version, HISMV is divided into 21 "chapters".
Here are the names of the chapters: (they would have to be Warner's
official titles)
Side One:
Chapter 1: Countdown to vacation (Credits; Waiting for the Clock).
Chapter 2: Headed for Happy World Land.
Chapter 3: And Plucky makes five.
Chapter 4: Squirting match; all wet.
Chapter 5: Shirley's looney advice.
Chapter 6: Sappy motoring.
Chapter 7: Nonlooney toons to the rescue (Beneath the Ocean).
Chapter 8: "Deliverance" from salt-of-the-earth folk.
Chapter 9: Fifi tracks down Johnny Pew.
Chapter 10: Down South: Buster's triple wedding.
Chapter 11: Elmyra on safari.
Chapter 12: A pitsy pit stop; an unhinged hitchhiker.
Side Two:
Chapter 1: Fowlmouth at the dad-gum movies.
Chapter 2: The Delta Burke.
Chapter 3: The hitcher takes a hike.
Chapter 4: Seeing Happy World Land.
Chapter 5: A starving audience.
Chapter 6: Mine-shaft mayhem.
Chapter 7: Plucky free at last.
Chapter 8: Down a plot hole; summer's over.
Chapter 9: The last wet word (End Credits).
The fruit snacks commercial is not on the laser disk, probably because they
had a hard enough time trying to cram everything on. Side 1 is recorded
in extended play (CLV) as it is.
You can stick all this in your DYN if you like.

Wow, you really do your homework, don't you!
>By the way, in the laser disk version, HISMV is divided into 21 "chapters".
Errr . . . How so? You mean they just have a list printed somewhere in the
documentation that comes with the disk? Or am I severely ignorant of
something inherent in laserdisks?
>The fruit snacks commercial is not on the laser disk, probably because they

Somehow, I think I would feel entirely un-let-down about the lack of a
commercial.
>>By the way, in the laser disk version, HISMV is divided into 21 "chapters".
>Errr . . . How so? You mean they just have a list printed somewhere in the

The list of the chapter names is printed on the back of the cover of the
disk, but it is also a physical division on the disk itself. Apparently,
the division into "chapters" on the laser video disk allows you to jump
from one chapter to another in a similar way to how you can jump from
one song to another on a CD, but I won't know all the details until I
actually get an LD player!
