WHAT THE PRODUCERS HAVE REVEALED - GENERAL S P O I L E R S
***********************************************************
WARNING: Executive Producers J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof have
revealed the following info/answers about the show. SPOILERS:
01) "No, they're not dead." - Writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach. "Ive gone
on record forty times saying they’re not all dead." - Burk.
"Abrams dismissed the popularly held theory that the castaways are
stranded in Purgatory, though he claimed to like the idea." -Zap2it.
02) "It's not a dream." - Abrams on 20/20. "This is not a fictional
reality that is playing out in someone's brain." - Lindelof.
03) "First off, I want to go on the record as saying there are no
dinosaurs on the island. There haven't been, there won't be, it will
never happen." - Lindelof.
04) "That was NOT unintentional," said Lindelof about the first season
covering 40 days and that being a biblical reference.
05) "Ethan Rom" is an anagram for "Other Man." - William Mapother.
06) "There isn't one answer to everything." - Abrams.
07) "Every single name on the show has purpose and meaning" - Lindelof.
08) "All I can say is, every prop is absolutely intentional" - Lindelof.
09) Comic Book: "We definitely chose that story for a reason." - Abrams.
10) "23 is a very important number in the mythology of Lost." - Writer.
11) "This is not a show about the supernatural, despite the fact that we
have a very huge creature that likes to eat people. Despite the
surreal, bizarre aspects of the island, there will be an explanation
for it. It may not come for a very long time, but certain
information about the island will explain how things are possible.
We'll try to root it in real science or real pseudo-science. There
will be no mystical reason or an island of monsters. The island has
been around for millennia, and many people have found themselves on
it, and as far as we know, nobody has ever gotten off. There is also
the possibility of others being on the island, they just haven't
seen them yet. And we'll never know how big this island is. It could
be enormous, but odd things will keep them from knowing the full
length and breadth of it. It's an interesting little allegory. It
will be very mysterious... The show will always be from the
perspective [of] the people on the island, so we never see the
outside world, except from their perspective." - writer David Fury.
12) "The flashbacks serve as a great conduit to learn more about these
characters, but that's not all they're there for. The idea that
these people -- way before they got on this airplane -- have
interacted with each other either directly or through third parties
is one of the cool pieces of tapestry of the show."
"These peoples' lives may have intertwined before they all got on
that plane in ways that they themselves are not aware," he says. "It
gives complete purpose as to why we're telling two different
stories, one that happened before the crash and one that happens
after." - Lindelof.
13) "We're still trying to be ... firmly ensconced in the world of
science fact. I don't think we've shown anything on the show yet...
that has no rational explanation in the real world that we all
function within. We certainly hint at psychic phenomena,
happenstance and ... things being in a place where they probably
shouldn't be. But nothing is flat-out impossible. There are no
spaceships. There isn't any time travel." - Lindelof.
14) "We do know what the island is and have all those answers and they
lean very heavily into the sci fi category, but those are answers
that scare our parent company." - Former Writer David Fury on the
sci-fi aspect of the show and ABC's interference. Full interview:
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.tv.lost/msg/2b6147f771174306
15) "The plane did not crash by accident. It crashed for a very specific
reason." - Lindelof.
16) "I will tell you today that is not the case." - Lindelof about the
speculation that someone aboard the plane caused the crash.
17) The people on the boat who kidnapped Walt are indeed "The Others"
and two of the men were identical twins. - Perrineau & Holloway.
18) "The words that Boone heard are definitely, 'We're the survivors of
flight 815.' That's also what Boone said, so it's up to
extrapolation as to whether or not his own words were being bounced
back to him. Or is that transmission coming from somebody else
claiming to be a survivor of Flight 815? There are things that
happen in the finale that, if you're a loyal viewer, you might begin
to extrapolate certain facts from that information." - Lindelof.
19) There are answers/clues in Desmond's painted Wall Mural.
20) Shannon's first encounter with Walt in the jungle was indeed a dream
and what Walt said was, "Push the button. Don't push the button.
Bad." - Cuse & Lindelof.
21) "It's important to note that we've never said when the plane
crashed. I think the assumption is that it happened in 2004 when the
show premiered, but we've never said that." - Lindelof.
22) "The Helen we meet in flashbacks is not the same Helen that Locke
was speaking to on the phone." - Lindelof.
23) Danielle has been on the island 16 years, despite the fact that the
translated French message is inconsistent on the iterations - writer
Javier Grillo-Marxuach.
24) The "Orientation" film's jump cuts are "missing pieces" that
resulted when Desmond spliced the broken movie back together after
watching it too many times. - Lindelof.
25) Season 2 will cover roughly the next 45 or 50 days. By the end of
season two we’ll be in the range of day 90 and the cause of Flight
815's crash will be revealed. - Lindelof.
26) "We hide black and white rocks throughout the show. Every time we
have a black rock - boulders, backgammon pieces - there’s also a
white one.” - Lindelof.
************************** 02 *****************************
TIME FRAME
***********************************************************
Q: How long have they been on the island?
A: As of episode 2x07, 48 days.
Q: In what year is the show taking place?
A: 2004? Shannon alluded to the movie "Finding Nemo" which her French
boyfriend's son watched repeatedly when she spent a year in Paris.
Finding Nemo was released on dvd in France on May 12 2004. Jack's
dad's saying, "that's why the Red Sox will never win the series" is
no longer true because the Red Sox won the World Series on October 27
2004. Therefore, the crash occured between May and October 2004?
A: In episode 2x07, "DAY 48" was denoted as "Today." That episode aired
on November 16 2005, so 48 days prior would place the crash on
September 30 2005. Simply something to ponder, NOT a proven fact.
Q: What time did Oceanic Flight 815 depart from Sydney?
A: 14:15 or 2:15 PM according to Hurley's ticket screen.
Q: Why was it daytime outside the airplane windows? Shouldn't it have
been nighttime if they flew North-East of Sydney for 6 hours?
A: Yes. As of yet, it's an unanswered mystery or a production error.
For more info, Google: "Big Blooper or Unexplained yet" or "Cocos"
************************** 03 *****************************
NUMBER OF SURVIVORS & DEATHS
***********************************************************
Q: How many survived the crash?
A: Jack told the Pilot 48 but that number included Ethan and since he
wasn't on the plane, then there was only 47 survivors. If you include
the Pilot and the EngineSuckedGuy, there was technically and briefly
49 survivors.
A: 22 from the Tail Section. Goodwin the 23rd was not on the plane.
Q: Who has died on the island?
A: In departing order: EngineSuckedGuy, ThePilot, TheMarshall,
DrowningJoanne, Scott, Ethan, Boone, Arzt, Shannon.
A: Nathan, Goodwin.
Q: Out of the 49, how many are still alive?
A: 41 (42 with baby Aaron).
Q: Out of the 22 Tailies, how many are still alive?
A: 4 (possibly more like Cindy and others who have been abducted).

NUMBERS REFERENCES
***********************************************************
Q: What is the purpose of THE Numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 ?
A: Unknown. We know they are The Code for Dharma Station 3. They were in
the transmission, lottery, on the hatch, the soccer team jerseys and
Hurley's car. Speculation: number stations spy codes, serial number,
amount of dead people buried in the hatch, bible references. A
listing of occurrences of all Lost numbers can be found at

during the airing of Season 1. Also, the filming of the post
pilot episodes started on July 15 2004, Terry's 52 birthday. In
an interview, "O’Quinn notes that five and two equal seven, and
that July is the seventh month, then reels off other instances
of seven looming large in his life." Jack mentions that
Danielle is "clearly not playing with a full deck!"
************************** 08 *****************************
HURLEY'S WEIGHT & PERSONAL GROOMING
***********************************************************
Q: Why hasn't Hurley lost any weight?
A: It's only been 40 days. He's a big guy, it's gonna be a while before
we notice.
Q: Why aren't they unshaven, dirty, sick, bug-bitten...?
A: It's a tv show. The producers don't want an ugly reality. They found
grooming items in the suitcases and have been shown shaving from time
to time.
************************** 09 *****************************
THE CABLE ON THE BEACH
***********************************************************
Q: What is it?
A: All we know is that it runs between the ocean and a spot in the
jungle ground, near the broken bridge. When Sayid first found it, its
inner wire was exposed and when he touched it, he didn't get
electrocuted.
************************** 10 *****************************

THE SPANISH COMIC BOOK & POLAR BEARS
***********************************************************
Q: Who did the comic belong to?
A: Hurley was reading it on the flight.
Q: What is the name of the comic book?
A: Green Lantern / Flash: Faster Friends Part 1.
Google it for an explanation of its significant story.
The comic can be read or downloaded here: http://www.lostlinks.net/
Q: Where did the polar bears come from?
A: Unknown. Speculation: Danielle's ship, Walt's mind, underground lab
zoology experiment, placed there for island security, another wreck.
************************** 12 *****************************
LOCKE'S CRIPPLING CONDITION
***********************************************************
Q: How is Locke able to walk after being in a wheelchair for four years?
Wouldn't his muscles atrophy/be too weak for him to even stand up?
A: It's a miracle! In the scene where Locke is in bed talking with Helen
on the phone, he was using a Hako Med electromedical device to
exercise his leg muscles. Info on the machine:
http://www.electromedicine.com/products/proelecdt.html
Q: How come no one knows he was in a wheelchair, didn't they see him at
the airport?
A: Locke was carried onto the plane before everyone else. He was wheeled
passed Michael's back, but Michael never saw him. Perhaps Walt did?
************************** 13 *****************************
WHERE IS ROSE?
***********************************************************
Q: How come we don't see much of Rose in Season 1?
A: The actress L. Scott Caldwell landed a role in an off-broadway play
called "Going to St. Ives" running until April 24, 2004. So she was
not available to film Lost in Hawaii.
************************** 14 *****************************
CANADA REFERENCES
***********************************************************
01) Kate tells the farmer that she's from Canada. A lie.
02) Sawyer pretends to have an oil investor from Toronto. A lie.
03) Ethan says he's from Ontario. Hurley assumes Ontario, Canada.
04) Hurley's Sneaker Factory burns down in Canada killing "8-something"
people. Will it be 815 or 84?
05) Nathan claimed to be from Canada.

BOONE'S RADIO TRANSMISSION
***********************************************************
Q: What did the man on the radio say to Boone?
A: In episode 2x07, it was revealed that Boone spoke with Bernard, who
replied with "We're the survivors of Flight 815."
A: Lindelof said they intentionally made it ambiguous to keep viewers
guessing. So it is not clear whether it was "We're the survivors of
Oceanic Flight 815" or "There were no survivors of Oceanic Flight
815."
A: Lindelof has changed his mind and revealed the answer. See Section
01:17 for the Spoiler.
************************** 16 *****************************
JACK'S TATTOO
***********************************************************
Q: What does Jack's upper arm tattoo with "5" on it mean?
A: Matthew Fox got that tattoo when he was on the show "Party Of Five."
The writers of Lost said they will work it into the storyline. So
far, we know that Jack didn't have the tattoo on the day he married
Sarah. It is speculated the it may represent Jack allowing fear to
take hold of him for only 5 seconds.
A: Some posters have translated the Chinese writing to mean "an eagle
strikes into the vast sky" - from a poem by Chairman Mao Zedong (Mao
Tse Tung) denoting something brave and exciting.

WHAT THE PRODUCERS HAVE REVEALED
11) "... The island has been around for millennia, and many people have
found themselves on
it, and as far as we know, nobody has ever gotten off. ...." -
writer David Fury.
-------
"nobody has ever gotten off" ?
Mr. Fury, I respect you greatly from your stint on the Buffy series,
but that statement makes absolutely no sense to me.
For that statement to be true, the scenario had to play out like this.
Alvar Hanso bankrolls the Dharma Initiative to construct between 2 and
6 (maybe more) research stations on or near this island. After planning
and preparation, the first wave of transport
ships/helicopters/airplanes arrives on the island. (If it was
airplanes, then we have an as yet undiscovered landing strip somewhere
or it was removed completely.) This first wave brings all materials and
workers to construct the first station. Imagine for a second the task
of building a one or two-story building ... FIVE STORIES underground.
The amount of equipment, supplies and number of workers would be
considerable.
Now, Alvar Hanso never hears from them again, right ? "nobody has ever
gotten off"
So, what does Alvar do ? Well, he gathers up yet another team and sends
them off...never to hear from them again. Then, he does that up to four
more times. That is, unless he sent all the material and supplies and
workers for all the stations, all at once. (Realistically, there had to
have been an advance team to scout out the island in the first place
for planning purposes....and they never came back. So, Alvar would not
have sent the first construction team to begin with.)
Either:
1. The Lost creators didn't think this through.
2. David Fury was wrong in his statement.
3. Alvar Hanso was in radio communication with the first crew, knew
they were OK and waiting for further supplies. (Does this imply he is
still in communication with them ?)
- OR -
4. I am all wet and I am just in need of my medication again.
IF Fury was wrong and people came and went to the island during the
Dharma construction timeframe, that means that the Black Rock was the
victim of a tsunami and not the victim of the island's security system
. AND it means that the island's security system came into being
during or after the Dharma construction. Again, number 4 above is the
most likely answer to all of this.
So, the question is: when did the security system come into being. IF
it was before the Dharma construction, then why were all the Dharma
vehicles exempt. If they were NOT exempt, then why did Alvar Hanso
continue the construction, given all the considerable losses that they
must have sustained. So, in my mind, that implies the security system
is a construct of Alvar Hanso and did not exist before the Dharma
construction.
