Which song from each album do YOU think is the best.
In my opinion:

Iron Maiden: The phantom of the opera
Killers: Killers
Number of the beast: Hallowed be thy name
Pice of mind: To tame a land
Powerslave: Aces high
Somewhere in time: The loneliness of the long distans runner
Seventh son of a seventh son: Seventh son of a seventh son
No prayer for the dying: Mother Russia
Fear of the dark: Childhood's end
The X-factor: The sign of the cross

By the way, who are the best composers of today's heavy metal. My suggestion:

*Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
*James Hetfield (Metallica)
*Geddy Lee (Rush)

tied with "Children Of The Damned"

tied with "The Trooper," "Still Life," and "Revelations"

tied with "Public Enema Number One," "The Assassin" (despite a horribly stupid
chorus text), and "Bring Your Daughter...To The Slaughter"

>Fear of the dark: Childhood's end

tied with "Afraid To Shoot Strangers," "Wasting Love," "The Apparition," "Be
Quick Or Be Dead" and "Fear Is The Dark" (especially when Blaze sings Fear

Well, I thought this one was one of the weaker songs on the album. I prefer
"Judgement Of Heaven," "Lord Of The Flies," "The Heart Of Darkness," and
"2 A. M."

Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)

Quorthon (Bathory)
Arcturus
Satyr Wongraven (Satyricon)
At The Gates
Jon Nodveidt (Dissection)
Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray)
Christofer Johnsson (Therion)
King Diamond (Mercyful Fate)

I never personally owned either album because I can't stand Di'Anno, but
Phantom is certainly up there, I like Transylvania too...

> Number of the beast: Hallowed be thy name

Agreed.

> Pice of mind: To tame a land

That or Still Life.

> Powerslave: Aces high

Aces High all the way, although, I like the live version (Live After
Death) much better... it seems much more powerful.

> Somewhere in time: The loneliness of the long distans runner

Yup.

> Seventh son of a seventh son: Seventh son of a seventh son

Just about the entire CD, although SSOASS, Infinite Dreams and The
Prophecy are probably my favorites.

> No prayer for the dying: Mother Russia

I liked NPFTD, or at least I liked a lot of the songs that other people
don't. I thought that Mother Russia, Tailgunner, Run Silent Run Deep
and the Assassin were all pretty cool. I got WAY tired of BYDTTS after
hearing it a million times on Live One and the Donington CDs (which I
listen to frequently).

> Fear of the dark: Childhood's end

I didn't like that album that much, although Fear of the Dark is a
pretty decent song.

> The X-factor: The sign of the cross

Sign of the Cross, Lord of the Flies, Judgement of Heaven, Edge of
Darkness. (Not necessarily in that order!)

Actually, my favorite song off the X-Factor "era" so far has been
Judgement Day. It's too bad they didn't put it on the album, it would
have given it a certain "flair" which it seems to lack in parts.

Of course, there are many, many songs which are great, they just don't
all come to mind right now! :)

What is wrong with James Hetfield? He has written great songs like "Ride the

"Bleeding me" and so on. METALLICA RULES.

to make an already huge thread even huger, here's my list of maiden's
best:

Iron Maiden: Phantom of the Opera

Killers: Purgatory
NOTB: Hallowed or Children of the Damned(which i think is underrated)
Piece of Mind: Flight of Icarus, or Revelations off LAD
Powerslave: Aces High
SiT: Sea of Madness
SSOASS: Infinite Dreams
NPfTD: No prayer for the Dying
FOTD: Be quick or be dead
Real Live One: fear of the dark(the only song that actually sounds
good)
X-Factor: Edge of Darkness
Donington92: Hallowed

ok thats enough...i have yet to hear virus i wish someone would
actually upload it...i've checked all the cd stores around
here(Vancouver Island, Canada) and of course they don't have it.

oh, and i'd have to say my least favourite maiden song ever has to be
From Here To Eternity. Why would they release this as a single and put
it on RLO and Donington?? Just my opinion i guess, but it seems like
such a horrible song.

Yeah... I think Children is underrated, too. But I think it is also
one of the worst for guitar riffs.

Yeah.. Here in Newfoundland it's hard to find IM anymore.. Nobody seems=

I agree. "From here to eternity" is not a good song, although Geers's guitar
solo is very cool. Most of Geers's guitar solos stinks, but this one and the
one in "Wasted love" are very good.

Well I find at least 3 of them surprising!

Namely:
Prodigal Son (better than Wrathchild/Killers/Rue Morgue!?!?!)
22 Acacia Ave (better than Hallowed/Prisoner/Children Of The Damned!?!?!)
The Evil That Men Do (better than SSOASS/Moonchild/etc !?!?!)

I've never really liked Wrathchild, but Killers and Murders... are
pretty cool. There's just something about Prodigal Son that stands
out from the rest that I can't place...

>22 Acacia Ave (better than Hallowed/Prisoner/Children Of The Damned!?!?!)

I've only really liked this song since I listened to it on Live After
Death last year - it was the first time I'd listened to it live in a
few year (i'd neglected LAD for a while) and I just loved it. It's
the last half of the song that I really like. I've never really cared
for Children of the Damned, and I've heard Hallowed be Thy Name just
too many times...

>The Evil That Men Do (better than SSOASS/Moonchild/etc !?!?!)

Again, it's only been the last couple of years that it has grown on me
- it's a great sing-along song, which is not to say that the rest of
the album isn't good - it is. I like every song, but I've never been
able to figure out what all the fuss is about regarding The
Clairvoyant...

>..not to mention that I rate Sign Of The Cross about 8th out of all the tracks

Actually, it was a choice between SOTC and The Edge of Darkness. SOTC
won by a hair...

I´d say that there is one crucial album in Irons´ career: Seventh Son of a
Seventh Son. I think that one gathers all the essence of the music from
Iron Maiden. It recovers the past and prepares for the future, there is a
CHANGE there, both in mentality and in music. All of its songs are great;
the best for me. Afterwards I´d add these:

- Killers album.
- Fear of the Dark album.
- Iron Maiden: Charlotte the Harlot, Transylvania.
- The Number of the Beast: this very song.
- Piece of Mind: Where Eagles Dare.
- Powerslave: The Duelists.
- Somewhere in Time: Wasted Years.
- No Prayer for the Dying: Tailgunner.
- The X-Factor: Man on the Edge, Judgment of Heaven.

Up the Irons!
Jesus.

Time for my worthless 2 cents:

Iron Maiden: Transylvania
Killers: Purgatory
The Number of the Beast: The Prisoner
Piece of Mind: Revelations
Powerslave: 2 Minutes to Midnight
Somewhere in Time: The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son: Infinite Dreams

No Prayer for the Dying: Run Silent Run Deep

Fear of the Dark: Fear of the Dark

The X Factor: The Edge of Darkness

BTW, I also agree that "Judgement Day" is a great track and maybe
should've been on it, but has anyone else notice that it's opening rhythm
sounds strikingly similar to those of "Man on the Edge" and "Be Quick or
Be Dead" and that all 3 of these tracks were written by Janick with Bruce
or Blaze...Man, someone should tell him to lay off those intros. :-)

I guess I might as well share my thoughts-
IM: PROWLER!!!! - Can't get enough of It!! I just keeps going, I love it!
Killers: Murders (Maybe Wrathchild) I'm split on this decision
NOTB: Have to be NOTB - Hallowed is better in concert, but, well you know it's
too slow on here
Piece of Mind: Eagles through Still life - can't decide, 2,4,6 and 7 might
carry a tad more weight though.
Powerslave: Everything rules - Powerslave is not overrated IMHO
Somewhere in Time: Sea of Madness
SSOASS: Infinite Dreams
No Prayer: Bring Your Daughter - Yeah, I said BYDTTS... You gotta love the
chanting and operatic part
FOTD: Fugitive or Wasting Love - all the songs are great
X-Factor: Fortunes of War - I just got this a couple of days ago, and I am
very pleasently surprised, but they should use Blaze's voice better.
You listen to this and then maybe Flight of Icarus or Murders in the
Rue Mourge, and see the difference

Is it just me, or is Steve growing old gracfully, he still looks like
he's in his early twenties! In photos, at least (I missed the latest tours).

Yes, right! "judas Be My Guide" is the Great Song in a "Fear Of the Dark" I
think.
I don't know why the Maidens don't play in any concert this song.

Okay.. here they are.. really... I bought most of these albums the day
they came out in the U.S. (back to Killers) I've learned to play all the
guitar lines on 95% of these songs, so I've agonized over and Hyper-
analysed the "maidenesque-ness" of all the material.

IM ... Phantom of the Opera (super on LAD)
K...... Murders in the Rue Morgue, Purgatory
MJ .. live Killers
NOTB Hallowed be thy Name (a cliche' but honest choice)
POM. all of it!... Revalations, To Tame a Land... (Hail Bruce, lord of
metal vocals!)
POW.. Powerslave, 2MTM, Losfer words..
LAD.... Rime OTAM, Die with your Boots On
SIT ... Caught Somwhere in Time, Alexander the Great
SS..... (The ultimate Maiden evolution)...Infinite Dreams, SSOASS,
Clairvoyant
NPFTD. arrggh... Public Enema #1, Mother Russia
FOTD.. FOTD, ???
XF.... Man of the Edge, Blood on the World's Hands..

..Tough to judge RDO and RLO... Thoughts anyone...

Yes, some classics are missing from this list (NOTB, RTTH,CIPWM,etc)

My favorite Maiden Songs...
IM- Strange World
Killers- Murders in the Rue Morgue
NOTB- Children of the Damned/Hallowed be Thy Name (can't decide)
Piece of Mind- To Tame a Land
PowerSlave- Aces High/Powerslave (another tough decision)
SIT- Alexander the Great
7thSon- Clairvoyant
NPFTD- Assassin/Mother Russia (again, I can't decide)
FOTD- Title Track, Afraid to Shoot Strangers (I don't really like the
other songs from this album)
X-Factor- Edge of Darkness

It's almost impossible to say which are my favorites, because up to
NPFTD I loved every song they did.

I can't see what is so good about Man on the Edge. It is a lazily
written song with no thought or imagination put into it. Compare it to
Phantom of the Opera or Hallowed Be Thy Name, these songs have more
action and skill. Man On The Edge is just plain old crappy verse, crappy
chorus, crappy verse, crappy chorus, crappy Janick's solo, decent Dave
solo...

A bold choice, an instrumental for the album's best song ... it
IS a bloody good song though! I would have chosen Wrathchild or Killers
myself...

I found Iron Maiden this year again. I listened to it when I
was a young girl. This sumemr when I heard Can I Play
With Madness I found IM's music again.. Nowadays I've
been concentrating on 7th son and Powerslave.

If somebody ask me to say the best song of IM..
It's without a doupt CAN I PLAY WITH MADNESS! :)

TNOTB: TNOTB, but prisoner is so damn close!
POM: Trooper
PS: Aces high, but 2 minutes is close too!
SIT: Lonliness, but wasted years rules too!
SSOASS: Moonchild
NPFTD: Public Enema
FOTD: Judas
sorry, dont have X factor...

Wow is right. I am almost with you though. I would change.

N of the B: Hollowed be thy Name
P of M : The Trooper
S in T : Heaven Can Wait

other than those, the list looks pretty good.
