Picketing Tips for Any one Who Wants It :)

If anyone has more I missed, please add it
1) Call the cops: Let them know you will be picketing (peacefully).
Count on Scientology calling the cops on you.
See if you can get *a* name of who to call, if you have any problems.
2) Make CLEAR Signs that people can read. Have a message, you can speak
about, if people ask questions.
3) Copy the flyer from the main page here, pass them out. While doing so I
learned this from Kristy Walker: "Find out about Scientology, it's worse
than you think". (Lots of people here in LA say, "oh-we KNOW how bad it is".
So I say, "Good, then take one anyways so IF one of your buddies is getting
suckered in, give them the info!) They always take one.
4) Stay on the public sidewalk, and keep moving. (It's against the law to
stop---and they'll be looking for ways to stop you).
5) Don't yell---Scientology will claim you're interrupting their religious
practices.
6) Bring blown up Xenu dolls, if you want some color and entertainment.

CULT"

In the UK if you are planning more than a 'flying' picket, ie more than a
couple of people for longer than it will take the police to arrive:
Contact the police at the nearest police station at least a fortnight
beforehand. They have a picket liaison officer. Some forces have a form to
fill in: location, time, organiser ID, etc. They are NOT supposed to pass
this on to your target, make it clear that you are cooperating on that
basis. They do NOT require ID for anyone one participating apart from the
organiser.
Advise the police that it is CoS policy to call the police and insist they
attend at once. If the police don't want to attend full time, a brief
appearance at the start to remind both sides to behave will save them
being called out. Make sure you have the phone number of the nearest cop
shop so YOU can call them out!
Remmember that IN THIS CASE the police are not your Enemies or your
Friends. They are there to keep the peace. Be polite but make it clear you
know your rights. Some police do not, and make rules up as they go! 'Can
we have that in writing' is a good response to unreasonable police demands
such as telling you to picket out of sight of your target.
In the UK, the police are very sensitive over anti-religion protests
because of... you guessed, BNP, Muslims etc. They may well start off
biased against you.

This is NOT the case in the UK. Stand still, moon walk, whatever.

DO yell in the UK, at least until the police tell you to turn it down!
Another cult trick is the 'concerned neighbour' who phones the police
about the noise.

Ballons, dolls, alien costumes, PA system, street theatre.

DO NOT do this in the UK. The police will tell you to take it down, it is
inciting drivers to commit an offense, honking without due cause.

Don't let cult 'handlers' distract you from handing out leaflets. Stay
higher on the Tone Scale at all times. The cult may try to bullbait you,
don't be provoked. See the Panorama program video for how to bullbait.

In the UK, locate the nearest decent pub - but get rat arsed afterwards,
not before!

If possible have one person whose job it is to keep looking round,
filming, taking snaps etc. The Anonymous NY raiders got this exactly
right.

Give the cops one of your cell phone numbers if they want it.

You might get a banner too. We have one with WWW.XENU.NET on it.
Consider if your audience is mostly people driving by in cars, or
pedestrians. If it's cars, you'll need big letters and few words.

It depends on the local police about this. In some places they don't
care if you're standing in one place. In others they really want to
enforce that, otherwise they consider you "loitering."

Yes. They took Bruce to court here for that. But on the other hand,
chanting slogans is a normal part of picketing.

This can be problematic in some locations where horn honking is
considered a nuisance. Ask the cops first, I guess.

If you do start a conversation, move off the area where people are
picketing and consider yourself not picketing at that time. If the
conversation just seems to be spinning, it could be that a
Scientologist is just trying to get you to stop picketing.
