mrs. gummer has that look of a tired hillbilly woman who's been hit more
than a few times.

Another pic of mrs. gummer:

gummer's caption to the picture reads "My Lady Faire...now and forever.
1983". I guess he doesn't find her so fair any more, hence the
"mostly...black" girlfriend for whom he's buying handguns and shooting
accessories, rather than fix his fucking busted heater.

I guess "forever" with his "Lady Faire" wasn't all that long.

I'll try to get back to you on that then. BTW, it is TRUE that I once
followed the philosophy of TE. In fact, to this day, I still do in
many ways. I.e. my strength and sense of Right and Wrong come from
the Divine _within_ myself...the god part of me.

I am also Jewish by birth and belief.

medical issues

Tools. Well, I never paid much attention to the Tool. Have not even

Ayup. Im 58 yrs young these days.

The Lady Faire was a woman who I took up with in the 80s and still chat
with now and then. She lives with her husband in Nashville, and I of
course live in California

Svenja is a pretty little thing isnt she? A distant cousin who lives in
Germany...a German national. Her part of the family never came to the
US. None of my Finnish family has a facebook ad that Im aware of .

Ojala..check it out. My cousin used to be one of the senior engineers
for Sako..

Ha ha ha ha ha! 58 years old, and already have had coronary bypass
surgery *and* a stroke. Yep - you're right in the pink of health,
aren't ya?

You came (somewhat) of age in the Vietnam era, gummer, but you've never
been there - never been in the military at all.

You described Nan as your <chortle> "Lady Faire", gummer - you know,
Nan, the woman you were married to for 38 years, which takes you back
long before the 1980s. Or, is the 38 years figure just another garden

Or in intelligence.

His being 58 makes him eligible for service just a few years before
the end of the war, so all of his bragging about being there is just
that - brag. He was "there" for the fall, not like real servicepeople
who were there for the fighting. In January '68 he was only a 14 year
old snot.

If I had turned 18 on VJ day I'd be over 84 now. I hope I'm this
"young" when I'm that old, but I still have a ways to go. The "his
kind" referred to "Viet Nam heroes" like Gumball - who served, slogged
through the crap and were lucky to get home in some semblance of 1
piece. Then thought they were important because they had been there.
(Most sane people stopped talking about it when they could see the
treetops on their way home. It was a nightmare they'd rather never
have been part of. Seeing your outfit flensed isn't something you
want to brag about.)

Nan was my girlfriend. Mary was my wife of 38 yrs. You really should
read the book before posting like a complete fucktard. But then...its

Indeed he did. Lots and lots of lies about it in fact.

So did Jane Fonda..and she turned in POWs for torture and murder

Of course. My wife had taken up with another gent. I never said I had a
good marraige for its entirety. She left 3 times for greener
pastures, the last time in August. 3 strikes she is out.

Its been a so so marraige until the last 10 yrs or so.when we became
"friends" rather than husband and wife, so its not terribly surprising
she left, cleaned out my bank accounts and moved in with the kids in
Utah. And its not surprising she calls everyother day wanting to come
home again. Its been 6 months now..about her average before deciding she
fucked up...but this time...no coming back from it. Im tired of her and
her shit, I cleaned out all of her stuff and its in storage, and the
house is in my name..and she lives out of state.

So, hows your boyfriend doing these days? When is he getting out of
jail?

Debunked. It didn't happen.

Still true to Gumdrop, though. (I could probably get rich selling

That particular myth is "true" to a lot of right-wingers. Fonda was a
fool, and her motivation in the anti-war movement was rotten, but she
never "turned in" any POWs. Some of the POWs she was alleged to have
"turned in" to the North Vietnamese have themselves debunked the myth.

But nowhere near as badly as falsely, repeatedly, and very publicly
claiming to be a decorated combat veteran disses every veteran who ever
served.

That's a crime. Are you going to report it?

In California, a federal district court has ruled the Stolen Valor Act
to be unconstitutional, and the 9th Circuit upheld it (by refusing to
hear an appeal.) The US Supreme Court has taken the case.

It is to be hoped that they uphold the lower court rulings. As
loathsome as people who falsely claim to have served honorably in the
military are, and gummer dwieber certainly is as loathsome as they come,
it should be considered protected speech.

Whether protected or not, it is despicable. It is not surprising that
gummer would do it.

The problem is that it is rather difficult to outweigh the free-speech
argument. Claiming to be veteran is not the same as claiming to be,
let's say, a cop, some other government official, or even a currently
commissioned or enlisted member of the armed forces. In essence, it's a
false claim about your past, not your present. A false claim of being a
veteran conveys no particular authority, privilege or monetary benefit
by itself, unlike claiming a current government title and whatever
authority goes with it. Any additional fraud, such as receiving VA
benefits or veterans preferences, would be covered by separate criminal
statutes. Therefore, there is no potential harm to the public so great
that it justifies government sanction against persons falsely claiming
to be veterans.

It is, of course, morally repugnant and highly offensive to decent
people, but so is much of protected free speech. The best that can be
hoped for is that such braggarts continue to be publicly outed, or
perhaps one day knocked off their barstool and into unconsciousness by a
real and pissed off veteran tired of hearing their BS. In Gunner's
case, I suppose that pretty much the entirety of his existence can be
viewed as some sort of karmic retribution.

No, I'd say not. Federal Judges are responsible to safeguard
Constitutional rights and uphold the law, not safeguard moral standards
and uphold notions of decency.

It may be morally repugnant and highly offensive to them personally, but
that's immaterial as to whether or not it's protected speech.
