I'm 17 and I've known since I was extraordinarily young (age 5) that I
was gay. At the time i obviously didnt think those thoughts, but i've
always known that i had much stronger feelings towards boys than i did
for girls. I was very much in denial up until i was 15 when I finally
decided to just accept that I was gay.

The hardest part about who I am, is that I have always had to deal with
my peers calling me names and saying things about me behind my back.
This began when I was 12 and led to me falling into a state of
depression. It wasnt until I was 15 and accepted who i was that i came
out of my depressive state. The worst thing that had happened to me was
when my best friends mum got wasted at my graduation dinner and started
telling people that I was a "faggot" and an "abomination." Her husband
managed to shut her up and my friends kept it a secret from me until they
felt that it was necessary. I had never felt more crushed in my life.
When my friend found out she said she had to agree with her mum, which
crushed me because id just lost my best friend.

I didnt come out of the closet to everyone all at once, instead i told a
few of my really close friends so i could see how they would react to it.
I found that all of my friends are really okay with my sexuality. All in
all I found that most the company that I keep are quite accepting gay
people. I still haven't told my parents as they appear to be somewhat
tolerant of gays, but something in me just makes me feel as though they
wont accept me or worse that they'll judge me.....however, even if they
do feel that way, I have friends that have told me that they have a place
for me.

The only relationship that I have ever been is was amazing in the
beginning. My first boyfriend was amazingly smart and a really nice
person. However, because of his parents, we could never see each other.
We tried really hard to keep the relationship going at a distance. We
managed to keep the relationship going for just over a month before he
decided to break it off. I was distraught for the night but I found
myself thinking that I shouldnt get down, because my boyfriend was right,
we couldnt keep a relationship going when we couldnt see each other over
a 3 month period. We have tried to remain close friends but I have found
that my feelings for him (although not intimate) have been made me feel
very uncomfortable.

All in all, I have very close friends that i know i can trust. I know
now that you cant let the things that people say get you down. Even
though you may feel like you've found "the one" and it doesnt work out,
there will always be people there for you, and you are more than likely
to find someone else.
