Manuel Abrams Economist
Manuel Abrams, 91, an economist with the State Department from 1950 until
his retirement in 1978, died June 1 [2010] at Sibley Memorial Hospital in
Washington of kidney failure.
Mr. Abrams held positions with the State Department in Paris, Rome, Brussels
and Geneva, among other locales. After he retired, he settled in Chevy
Chase.
A Philadelphia native, Mr. Abrams received a bachelor's degree in
mathematics from the City College of New York in 1939. He moved to
Washington during World War II and worked as an economist for the Office of
Price Administration before joining the State Department.
His marriage to Sylvia Shapiro Abrams ended in divorce.
Survivors include two daughters, Mona Abrams of Washington and Gabrielle A.
Cherubini of Rome.
