Herbert Schneiderman Radio News Writer
Herbert Schneiderman, 92, [2010] a retired writer and editor for Voice of
America radio broadcasts, died March 13 at his home in Brunswick, Maine. He
had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Mr. Schneiderman came to Washington in 1952 and worked for the Voice of
America until his retirement in the late 1970s.
He was born in New York City, attended City College of New York and served
as an Army scout and German language interpreter during World War II. He
received the Bronze Star Medal.
He worked for the New York Times and as a news writer for ABC radio before
coming to Washington. He lived in the District until moving to Maine in
2005.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Robbins Schneiderman of
Brunswick; two daughters, Rachel Schneiderman of State College, Pa., and
Annie Valliere of Woolwich, Maine; two sisters; four grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.
