Alfred J. Pilarcik, age 80, of Schererville, IN
passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010.

He was born July 3, 1930 in Whiting, IN to
Martin and Helen (Polomcak) Pilarcik.

He married Theresa Grish on February 14, 1957
and she survives.

Mr. Pilarcik served with the U.S. Army during
the Korean War. He played major league baseball
for over 12 years. He played for the New York
Yankees, Kansas City Athletics, Baltimore Orioles
and ended his career in 1961 with the Chicago
White Sox. [1] Alfred was recently inducted into
the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame.

After baseball, he went into the teaching profession
and taught at Lake Central High School for 33 years,
retiring in 2001.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theresa;
daughter, Kathleen F. (Steve) Dautch; grandchildren:
Elizabeth Caroline Pilarcik and James Martin Pilarcik;
and sister, Rita Horynak. He was preceded in death
by two brothers: Bernard and Marty .

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John
Evangelist Church, St. John, IN on Saturday,
September 25, 2010 at 10:30 AM. The visitation
will be at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline
Avenue, Schererville, IN on Friday, September 24,
2010 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Entombment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial
Gardens, Schererville, IN.
