John D. Perkins Lawyer
John D. Perkins, 78, a longtime Northern Virginia lawyer who specialized in
estate planning and trust administration, died Jan. 6 [2010] at Virginia
Hospital Center in Arlington County of complications from emphysema. He
lived in Arlington. Mr. Perkins began his professional career with the
Washington law firm Sharp, Partridge, Gantz & Perkins. In the late 1960s,
the firm became Partridge & Perkins and moved to Arlington and later to
Falls Church. Mr. Perkins continued to practice law until his death.
John Douglas Perkins was born in Ronceverte, W.Va., and moved to Montgomery
County when he was 14. He was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in
Silver Spring and the University of Maryland. After serving in the Army, he
graduated from American University law school in 1965.
Mr. Perkins was a member of a commission that was instrumental in bringing
cable TV to Arlington. He enjoyed golf and was a past member of the
International Country Club in Fairfax County.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Eleanore Beall Perkins of Arlington;
two children, John Paul Perkins of Boca Raton, Fla., and Elizabeth P. Biebel
of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Ralph Perkins of New Market, Va., and Paul
Perkins of Silver Spring; a sister, Dorcas Borchardt of Fairfax City; and
three grandchildren.
