Sonia M. Kundert Editor, Musician

Sonia M. Kundert, 65, a former production editor at the Center for Applied
Linguistics in Washington, died May 1 [2010] of lung cancer at Blue Ridge
Hospice in Winchester, Va.

Ms. Kundert worked for 14 years at the Center for Applied Linguistics, a
nonprofit with a mission of improving communication through a better
understanding of language and culture. She left the organization in 2001,
when she moved from Northern Virginia to Winchester to help care for her
parents.

She previously worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and for Victor
Kamkin Inc., which was once one of the largest distributors of Russian books
in the United States.

Sonia Marie Kundert was a native of Waynesboro, Pa. She received a
bachelor's degree in Russian from the University of Maryland.

She was a musician who played recorder, cello and piano. She sang with
several local choirs and folk music bands, including BAMCO, the
Balkan-American Music Company.

Survivors include her son from a previous relationship, Simba Eric Kundert
of Fairfax County; and a sister, Lorna Kundert of Alexandria and Winchester.
